hi, i have a ford, inline 6,200, and since i have been running it about two years ago, and it has always had a tick to it, just a little nock, and i have tried to figure it out for a long time, i rebuilt the engine, all new bearings, cam, rings, oil pump, lifters. And the ticking noise continued, my mechanic friend told me, that it was probably that the valves wern't ground right, and the valve stem height is off. So i found a doner engine, because i thought i would switch heads, instead of spending more money at the machine shop, but i don't know what year the doner is, and i don't know if it will work, or if i can just switch some parts from the doner head into my origonal one? Should i carry out the swap, or do i need to go to a different machine shop?

Don't rule out other noises like rocker arms, fuel pump, or exhaust leaks.. They can all make little ticks and knocks... Try to isolate the noise with screwdriver to your ear or a stethoscope.. It may help solve the problem..
