I just bought a '67 convert. and it had an overflow can on the radiator. On the other Mustangs I've owned, this was never needed. It has a 289, 2-barrel, auto, power steering, and 99% original. It also has a clutch fan behind the radiator. Is this stock? The fan is mounted directly to the pulley with no spacer. It is approxiamately 2"-2.5" away from the radiator. I thought I had read somewhere that the fan was to be within 1/2" of the radiator. Should this have a spacer? Thanks in advance for any help. Charlie

If it has a fan shroud, then the spacing is not as critical as long as the fan blades are at least 60% inside the shroud.. If it doesn't have a shroud, then you should get one.. They improve airflow through the radiator by 100%. The overflow is a safety precaution to keep it from spitting antifreeze on the ground and is required by most racing facilities..

Thanks for the advice. If a shroud is what is needed, I'll give it a try. As for the burp can, it is just a band-aid to the problem. This is my fourth Mustang, and the only one to ever need an overflow can. I won't be putting it on the track, so NHRA regs don't apply.
