I have an 11 year old son and a 5 year old daughter. I have been working on my 65 Mustang Coupe for almost 2 years now. Guess who has been there most of the time asking me questions and wanting to get dirty along with Dad? Not my son! One morning while working on replacing my suspension at O'Dark early in the morning, I heard a noise behind me. I rolled over and saw that my daughter had climbed under the car right beside me, while still in her underwear. I told her to go inside and get dressed and I would show her how to help me. I gave her a ratchet and let her install my grease fittings. Not a Saturday goes by that she doesn't ask if we can go to the car show. At 4 years old she could tell the difference between a Firebird and a Camaro. She likes the late 50's Corvette's. Can't say I blame her for that one. One night while driving home from a car show she asked me if I was going to paint my car. I told her I was thinking of dark blue or white. She said she liked pink and purple. I didn't think anything of it till the next morning when I went out to work on the Mustang some more. She had gotten up in the middle of the night and drew puple and pink flowers down the sides of my car. Now who could be mad at a little girl for something like that. She had taken an interest in my project enough to want to help out. She and I wiped the flowers off the car and I thanked her for trying to help me with my car. My point is this: More young ladies are taking an interest in restoring and driving classic cars. This is no longer a "Men only" hobby. With the number of restored / classic cars dwindling, we need to teach those who want to learn to keep the hobby going. If my son should ever drop the Playstation controler long enough to take an active interest in the Mustang then it will be his when the time is right. I figure I still have time to find that dream 50's Corvette to restore with my daughter.

That is a great story!! It gave me a big smile this morning. Hope there are more Dad's like you around. My dad used to tell me to go inside and help my mother clean when I went into his garage. I think it was his escape, though. Not that he didn't want to teach me. Also, that was a different generation. When girls weren't thought to be able to break out of the "mold" for them. When I was in high school and they opened a career center, I signed up for welding. My parents had to sign the permission papers. My Dad signed them, but got angry when I was accepted, because he did not think they would accept a girl! This was 1978 or so........ Boy, times have changed! Ya know, I just gotta comment on this. My daughter is 9 and still would stay in her "undies" all day if I let her. LOL! Kids just went back to school today, being out with bad weather. The past three days I've come home from work and she has been hobblin' around in her p.j. top and undies....... Have to make her put some sort of britches on for dinner! Crazy kids!

In my old neighborhood was a four year old girl who I had always thought her last name was "getyerpantson". I often heard her mom yelling "Angie Getyerpantson". I still don't know what her last name really was.....
