This past Saturday, my Mom was hit head-on by a distracted driver (looking in his back seat at cats, IN CARRIERS!!!, and drifted over into the other lane), with a guard rail right beside her and nowhere to pull over and get out of the guy's way. She is fine, Thank God, but her 1998 Crown Victoria with 11,565 original miles was totalled. Combined impact forces of about 60mph, as they were both doing about 30 in a 30 zone. She is so fortunate that it wasn't worse! After something like that, it takes time to get my humor back. I added another post to WHEW in The Men's Room, about an experience in college, but I didn't add any big grins. Not up to it yet. Steve, you can pull the ad for my Grand Marquis. When the insurance pays off, my Mom is going to buy that from me. ------------------ David "Lean on me. I am just another dumb fence post." 1979 Ranchero GT 1990 Grand Marquis GS

David, Glad to hear that your mother is all right. It's amazing what people will do in a car while driving. Spotted a lady talking on a cell phone and eating an ice cream cone while driving. Made sure I got out of her way quick. The good news is that your mom is fine. She can't be replaced, but her car can be.Dave & Terri ------------------ Poison Ivy (Dave's) '65 Fastback Modified 289 4V, C-4, dual exhaust, styled steel wheels, rally pac, A/C Blue Belle (Terri's) '66 Coupe, Silver Blue Metallic, 351W 2-V, 4 speed, A/C, "For Sale"

the things people let distract them while they are driving never cease to amaze me....
a friend of mine from high school lost his wife in a car accident that happened when she turned from driving to put her arm across some laundry in the back seat (to keep it from falling over).... she ran off the road and hit an embankment .... gone in a flash.... over something really truly trivial.... i had a co-worker who would show up in the morning driving with a cigarette and cup of coffee in one hand and a freaking cell phone in the other.... i was always glad as hell to know i was at work before she got on the road in the morning.... i used to ask her what she would drop first if she needed a free hand.... she never could really answer that one.... she actually thought it was a humourous question ... but i was dead-dog-serious.... david... i am glad your mom is not hurt... its a danged shame her vic got totalled... but that is nothing in the big picture..... guys like the one who hit your mom make me want to just stay at home.... out of the way of the no-driving-dumba$ses.... GRRRRRRR...... kk

Thanks, everyone. Yes, kk, my Mom feels sick about what happened to her car, but it's like I told her: It is just an inanimate object and can be replaced. The same would be true if it were the most rare and desirable vehicle in the world. No material item means anything at all, when compared with Life itself. David ------------------ David "Lean on me. I totally understand her being mad about it though.. Some ignorant woman hit me in Feb and totalled my tbird.. You do everything right, take care of your car, pay it off, and some moron totals it for you. All you get is some money which the equivalent to isn't gonna get you a car you know you can trust.. I knew what had been done to my tbird, what had been replaced, etc. I had to choose a "used car i knew nothing about" or making car payments again.. GGRRR!! The woman that hit me had had brain surgery the month before and wasnt even suppose to be driving.. I think if those people had to actually "Pay" for the damage the caused vs their ins co paying for it, maybe some of them would think twice before doing stupid sh*t.. Shell
