i bet she is wanting to be there for you... but for some reason she feels like she will do it wrong or not be perfect or any number of imagined reasons .... maybe she is just worried people will be looking at her....
you know how some people wont get on to a crowded dance floor cause they are convinced the whole room is paying total and complete attention to them? maybe that is how she imagines she will feel in front of bleachers full of people?
you are on the right track though .... be supportive of her and encouraging tell her how much you need her to be there for you....
i have backed myself into the water countless times ... never backed anyone else in until november of last year .... and ... even though i KNOW what needs to be done... it was still a little unnerving the first time being out there trying to concentrate on what you are doing ... and not being a driver.... it was a completely different perspective for me.... looks different feels different and certainly sounds different....
i knew i had to watch carefully because we have a retaining wall on the right side of the right lane that my guy cant see from his side and there is a concrete wall behind the water ... and i knew he was watching me as i was watching the box... and that it is all a matter of timing and relaying the info .... and damn.... i just used the hand positions i was comfortable with ... and we didnt discuss those in the staging lanes... i just went with what i felt was most visually effective.... and ... so i worried about that part.... and all of this worrying took place in about the last 5 seconds before he pulled from the staging lanes onto the track!!!!
.... so it doesnt last long.... and i was fine .... he did fine ... we did fine... and life is good... .... i was damned proud to be out there on the track with him... helping him out... knowing he was really depending on me ....
if your track allows two pit crew in the pre-stage area.... ask her if she will at least go with your friends wifey and "shadow" her.... maybe she will see how uncomplicated it is and how quickly it is overwith....
i am sure she must be thinking "i can do that".......
keep us posted!!!
