Has anybody ever heard of a 1956 Mercury 312 with factory 2 4barrel carbs? I recently stumbled across a pair of odd gold plated emblems that have a large letter M, with the numbers "260" underneath. The is also a "Mercury man" head on top of the emblem. I found a small story on the "My Classic Car" website, & they mentioned this optional 2x4 312 as being available in 56 Mercury`s. I always thought that the only factory 2x4 Y block was the 270 HP 57 Ford 312. Any ideas?------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA M/Stock 302 5speed. 12.52@106.11mph 59 Meteor (Canadian Ford) 2 dr sedan 332, auto 74 F350 ramp truck 390 4spd

It was an over the counter kit Rory, offered to make the car more competitive in NASCAR.-Read This Thread- for more information. I can give you a list of the kit contents if you wish. It was released in the form of a TSB. Hold on to those emblems... ------------------ I am looking for information concerning factory performance/aftermarket speed parts (1958/1960) used on the MEL (Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln) (Also Thunderbird 59/60) Engine Series (383-410-430-462) produced from 1958 thru 1968.
