I just love 57 Fords, if I ever get my garage built (having to sue the contractor) I hope to get one in there.Back in my teenage years my best buddy had a brand new black two door hardtop Fairlane. That is the model where a chrome strip runs down and back starting at the front of the fin. It was a stick, 312 single 4bbl. He lowered it in front just the right amount and did the chrome ring around the headlight trick. John

John, I have a buddy who also owns a 57 Fairlane 2 dr HT. You certainly don`t see all that many of them. Most are the Fairlane 500, with the side trim running from the tip of the front fenders, right to the tail lights, with the gold anodized aluminum in the middle. Personally, I always have prefered the Custom models over the Fairlanes, I never cared for the huge bumpers & flatter 1/4 panels that the Fairlanes had. It`s actually amazing how many different how many different versions of the 57 Ford there really was. You had the base Customs, the Custom 300 with full length trim, the Fairlane with just the 1/4 panel "hook", the Fairlane 500, with similar looking, but totally different side trim than the Custom 300, not to mention the 2 dr sedan, the 2 dr "imitation hardtop" with the thinner door frames, & the hardtops.Plus the Customs had a 116" wheelbase, with the Fairlanes using 118" WB. My buddy currently owns a bunch of 57-58`s, including 2 58 2dr sedans, a 2 dr HT, 2 57 wagons, both 2 doors,& the same 57 Meteor 2 dr "imitation hardtop" Ridieu 500 he has owned since 1967. I`ve had 3 57`s, a Custom 4 dr sedan, & 2 Sedan Delivery`s, a 58 2 dr. Ranch Wagon, a 59 4 dr. Country Sedan SW ( my first car over 30 years ago!), & now my 59 Meteor 2 dr. sedan, & a 59 2 dr sedan parts car. It`s kinda cool having a car almost as old as yourself! ------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA Stocker under construction, 302 5 speed 59 Meteor (Canadian Ford) 2 dr sedan 332, auto 74 F350 ramp truck 390 4spd

Thanks Steve even the model looks cool although I am not a fan of purple.Rory, I envy your friend. I remember back in 58 driving by the Nebrasks Highway patrol headquarters. They were selling off last years patrol cars, there were about a hundred black two door customs with Heavy duty three speed tranny's and the 312 engines all for sale for a few hundred dollars. Oh for a time machine. What was even more remarkable than the number of body options for thr 57's was the number of engine options. 312s with one four barrel, two four barrels, one four barrel with a supercharger, and two four barrels with a supercharger. The following engine option list is from 1957Ford.com Engine Code: A - 6Cyl. 223 C.I.D. OHV 144 HP B - 8Cyl. 272 C.I.D. OHV-2V Carb-Std 190 HP B - 8Cyl. 272 C.I.D.
