They have been through just about everything (racing, towing a trailer, coast to coast run - twice, and daily driven) and they are still working fine. George

I think so too.Have you tried the drag game site, and then go to the main site they built a 66 with a hipo 302 and a 8" that they race with street slicks. It has hold up so far.SCOOP ------------------ 65 coupe,351w,RPM intake,Carter625,shorty headers,2.5 exhaust, Flowmasters,C4,open 8" 2:80,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,Crager SS,Black Suede. My Ghia II has 3.00 gears and I also have a doner car with 3.55 gears in it. Both are open. I'm going to be looking for a Tracion lock in the future. Bob R.------------------ 75 II Ghia 77 II FB

Scoop,I think the only Gears that You can buy for a 8" is 2:79,3:00,3:50,4:11,4:63.I'm using a 9" with a 3:70 Gear.When I had a 351C in the II,I started with a 5:14 then went to a 4:33,and then I put in the 302 I finally went to the 3:70

John they make a 3.80 for the 8" they are in the summit racing catalog. They have expanded the gear selection I think it's in part to all the street rods using the 8"rear. John do or use an auto or stick. And if its a c-4 how are the 3.70 on the street or highway. And liminted slip do you use.SCOOP ------------------ 65 coupe,351w,RPM intake,Carter625,shorty headers,2.5 exhaust, Flowmasters,C4,open 8" 2:80,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,Crager SS,Black Suede. Scoop,I have a C-4 and I'm running a 32" tall tire so that will kill the gear a little, I'm running 26-2700 rpm at highway speeds (about 60 mph). I have a stock Ford posi unit (not a Detroit locker). John

I have an 8" Ford with 3.55 gears, and a stock car mini spool. Diff's and power steering are for wuss' (Or dudes who only plan to drive their II's on week ends) I have 3.40 pumpkin and a 2.79 pumpkin (open) for carving the cones. The 3.55 never ever slip will be used for 1/4 mile and street duty. The only time I miss the diff and power steering is when I am trying to park. Not a big deal with the new car since I will drive it from my garage at home to my reserved parking spot at the store! (life is good.) Had planned on a Lincoln 9" with discs, but I have a hate-on for rear disc brakes now. My Mark 7 rear discs could be serviced once a day and still be noisy! I may just put a powertrax locker in the 8" and call it a day?! Rear discs look cool, but their just along for the ride. A II has a 90/10 weight distribution after all.------------------ 1978 Muscletang II t-top mach 1 1991 Lincoln mark 7 1997 Escort wagon type R [email protected]

John, thats one bad as$ car you have.I was looking at some of the members pic, pages and I saw your car.Where have I seen your car before as it been in a mag,or have you been to a car show in this area.I love the look of those big tires and the small car.And you have a great scoop for that body style.I was looking at that same scoop but I think the 65 hood is to flat and wide for that scoop.SCOOP ------------------ 65 coupe,351w,RPM intake,Carter625,shorty headers,2.5 exhaust, Flowmasters,C4,open 8" 2:80,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,Crager SS,Black Suede. I'm one of the naysayers of the 8" rear.Behind a C4 automatic with over 350hp and 400ft/lb of 351W, I never had a problem with an 8" rear. Behind a 2.3L Turbo and 5-speed, I broke my only 3.55 geared 8". Behind my 5.0L I broke two RAD 4 speeds then converted to a T-5 and broke a 3.00 geared 8". Both rears were open differentials and I ran 26" tall 245 (2.3L)and 225 (5.0L) width tires. Neither rear had been built up, and both had high miles. Both had pinion bearing fail followed by teeth. I've been told the week part is usually the caps. Both mine would've probably survived fine with a good pinion support and a fresh rebuild. The 351W now has a Tremec 5spd behind it, but also has a 9" which is holding up better than the clutch.

a351 is right you put a manual trans infront of an 8" and you better like playing in gear oil. I switched to a 9" after learning my lesson the hardway......... twice :-)
