I just bought a new intake manifold: a weiand action plus part no. 8011, with a used 600 cfm edelbrock carb., chrome waterneck, chrome linkage adapter, and a new edelbrock air cleaner all for only $200 at a swap meet/car show today. I knew it was a good deal, so I bought it. When I got it home and looked up the intake manifold on the net, It told me it was for 1983 and later 302's - it has the rear water passage. Now, I have a 1980 block that this is going on to. Does that mean that I cannot use this manifold?? If not, does anyone have any thought on how this setup will perform? Is there any way to modify it? thanx for the input

I will work fine as long as you have the appropriate intake gaskets. ( you should loose the Jimmy Carter Carb though lol)

Personal preferance. You got a great deal so go ahead and use it FLD. Carter was the parent of the Edelbrock carb.

I think there may be a head gasket issue also.

A friend once told me of a freshly rebuilt small block with overheating problems. He told me they tracked it down to the wrong head gaskets.

Sounds plausable.

What do head gaskets have to do with a intake manifold?

Coolent flow through the head is controled by the holes in the head gasket.

A crossover may change the flow through the heads. I don't see how it would make a significant change, but I've seen some pretty wierd things.

Because I wasn't around when my frend and his cronies took the engine apart, he may have been , Ahem< , Covering his *** by saying the parts store sold him the wrong gaskets when they were really installed backwards.

That sounds more plausable.

Backwards I believe. That's done regularly on SBF's.
