Anyone know where I can get a proportioning valve spring for a 69/70 brake proportioning valve. Also looking for a source for the square rings for the valve and the D block.

Thanks
Jim

Welcome to M&M, Jim!

I would bet those are non-serviced parts. Does the Ford parts books piece proportioning valves out?

Recently, a friend rebuilt my valve. He located a spring at a hardware store. There are O rings, I believe, also. The same procedure produced terrific results in his 67 My valve is out of a 68 but is the same. My car is still apart so it hasn't been tested.

Thanks Steve. I don't believe the valve is pieced out. I think it was only seviced as an assembly.

The original spring is steel with a brass or bronze coating to protect it from the brake fluid. The square rings should be butle rubber (I think) because normal rubber will break down after some period of time due to the exposure to the brake fluid. I'm trying to come up with all the "right" parts for a rebuild kit and was hoping someone else had gone through the exercise so I wouldn't have to. Thanks for the input, much appreciated.

I just got off the phone with the person who serviced. First, he reminded me that the 67 is different, or at least the location is different. at rear of car. I asked him about the corrosion problem. He reminded me that the original had disintegrated. The last post makes an interesting statement about coated springs and makes me wonder. I believe that I am going to go with an aftermarket adjustable valve as originality takes a back seat where brakes are concerned. My apology for giving questionable information.
