Car and Driver has an article about them in this months issue, I didn't have time to read it though. I think price will be 100K. Roush is doing the work. Way cool piece of machinery. Another one to add to my "dream" list. If you haven't been to www.holmanmoody.com you should!!!Tomstir

I am very excited by this! This would mean Ford would finally have a dedicated sports car, which it hasn't have since the days of the Pantera. GM has the Corvette, and Mopar has the Viper. It's time Ford had something special, too. I am also very happy they are considering resurrecting the GT 40 body, which I have always thought was among the sexiest car bodies ever designed. 5.4L 32V supercharged, 500 horse, 500 lbs/ft, 3000 lbs. I really hope Ford decides to produce this, even though I'll never be able to afford one. We can help them make the decision to produce it by voting in the Car&Driver poll on their web site: http://caranddriver.com/xp/Caranddriver/home.xml So far, it looks like I'm not alone in my enthusiasm, judging by the tally: Cadillac Cien 20.5% Chrysler Pacifica 9.6% Ford GT40 61.2% Pontiac Solstice 8.7% ------------------

I wanted to add, get a copy of the Feb. '02 Car&Driver, there's an excellent article about it there.I got to say my hat's off to Ford design chief J Mays. He really seems to have great taste in design. {I'm overlooking the VW bug...} ------------------

The new proposed model will be larger than the original. The wheelbase is stretched nearly a foot, the height will go up 3 inches from 40.5 to 43.5. {The 40 in GT40 stood for 40 inches tall} Overall length will be 17.1 inches longer than the original's 164.5 inches long. The passenger compartment has been moved back to lessen the intrusion of the front wheelwells into the driver's compartment. The original had the fuel tanks in the rocker panels, giving the car a wide step-over. The new car will have the fuel cell in the center of the wishbone frame structure. ------------------

That car is so sweet but remember the GT90. It also had a 100K price tag but never made it to production. I guess the quad turbo 12 killed it. Maybe the 5.4 will help out. They should've added 48 valve heads to make it more a super car engine. Didn't Ford made a concept with such a head? We can only hope.

The GT90 was never seriously intended to be a production car. It was just eye candy for the show circuit. I'm kind of glad it was never produced; I never liked the looks of the GT90. It was too radical, IMHO.------------------

I hope Ford does it too, Ron. It would be something to be proud of for us Ford diehards. Not only is it a car with a rich tradition, but it's one that will smoke a Corvette and Viper too!!!! I too think it will sell well enough for Ford to justify the development and manufacture of that magnificent beast! Stewart [This message has been edited by Stewart (edited 01-27-2002).]

Hey who's Ron.. It would be cool to see it at those high dollar lawn car shows. On speed vision I'll never have one,but it's cool to see next to you at a stop light.WOW,I better get those gears.I'd hate to shut one down.

You know what is really spooky about Ford bringing back the GT40?Before I even heard of the plans to reintroduce this car, I started having a semi-obsession with the car. Last summer and fall I read up a little on it, I searched for models of it, and I thought to myself that it would be cool to buy a kit car of a GT40. You guys remember when I put the ERA Replica web site up { http://erareplicas.com/ } as web site of the month? Mike even bought me a book on GT40s for Christmas. That is sure weird, huh? I swear I never heard a thing about it until I saw it in the {Feb.?} Motor Trend. I only wish I could afford one! ------------------

I think they will go into production later this summer, and if I remember right they will be available from Ford SVT dealers. ------------------

I was at the SVT National Dealer Training in Phoenix in April. They(the SVT people such as Tom Scarpello) could not confirm or deny that the GT-40 would be a SVT only car. Most of us as SVT dealers would prefer it that way, but they kept saying it wouldn't be fair to the rest of the non-SVT dealers. The young man who designed the new GT-40 was there with us on the "wave" I was in. Very interesting talking to him. He heads up the whole design department for SVT. Next up is the redesign for the next generation Cobra be it 04' or 05'

I think the SVT dealers deserve the exclusivity. Here in Maine there are only two SVT dealers and that really bugs me. If a Ford dealer doesn't want to be a performance dealership they should just stick to the Windstars. IMHO ------------------

Just in case anybody cares... there is a GT40 (the original) at the Indianpolis motor speedway museum. You guys are comparing it to the viper and the vette, but I think of more in terms of Ferrari or lambo for two reasons... Its at least as sexy as any italian car Its mid enginedGo take a look...
