I believe you can get a shelby Kit from Carol Shelby himself.Last I heard, you could still get an "original" from him as well - he had a stock of NOS cobra parts for a number of cars and was selling the originals for about $200,000, and the kits for about $80,000. I believe the only difference was that the kits had fiberglass bodies instead of aluminum, and they were not using the side oiler motors (maybe a 460?). Now THAT's the way to go for a "Kit" car!

The cobra from shelby american is actually a complete car design to be a continuation of the gsx-3000 seris of the 60's it is the GSX-4000 It is prety much an exact replica with a stronger frame and a few other options. I think prices start at 55,000 and go up from there but that is a small price to pay for what is the only new cobra recognized by Shelby American as a true cobra. There Site has very detailed info about the GSX-4000 and the new shelby car with of all things an oldsmobile engine.

There is also a company in the mid-west that builds very high quality EXACT replicas of 289 (coil spring) and 427 Cobras, aluminum bodies and all. They plan to offer kits somewhere down the line.

on of the few who adds extra floorpan room. They seem good, but I don't know about the just being a 5.0. Just gotta have a 427 or 428. If you can't afford it (like me....sigh) go big! Anyone know if LA Exotica is still in business? Their kit was around 13k back in 93. Had a real tough choice between one of theirs and my 93 5.0. ------------------ john 74 351C-4v Pro street 93 5.0lx reef blue 85 f150 4x4 riding high 68 galaxie 500 convert 77 T-bird Landau

On the FFR cars, you don't have to run an EFI 5.0. They can tailor the harness and engine mounts to accept even big block Fords.

http://carrollshelby.com/products.htm Go here!!! This tells you everything about the CSX 4000 (continuation of 427) , CSX 7000 (289 FIA), CSX 8000 (289 street). The CSX4000s come in either aluminum or fiberglass, and can be outfitted with a true 427 engine! You can even have your engine rebuilt by the company, or you can buy a brand new 427ci 750hp aluminum block and heads engine for a mere $30,000. Oh to be rich.

These past few weeks kit cars have been the object of my attention. There are no less than 300 makers of cobra replica's. Pick up a kit car illustrated and see how the cobra dominates over all others. There are companies that make Fiberglass hard tops for thses beasts also. Factory Five is also making a kit for the coveted Daytona coupe. It should be interesting, If I ever have enough money I will own one.

The place where I bought my Mach 1 sells superformance 427 Cobra replicas, they don't sell kits but a complete car minus engine and trans is $38,500 If I remember correctly. They also sell Birkins, something like a panoz, I think.
