I'm doing delayed entry. My contract is going to change a bit before I ship out. It's currently just an 11x (infantry) with a ship date of 29 October. My recruiter has promised me he'll be able to get airborne and ranger training added to that before I ship. We're also going to try to push my ship date back to January. As long as my recruiter delivers what he's promised, I'll be following my dreams. If he doesn't deliver, I'll just have to cancel the contract. No offense to regular infantry guys, but I'm not going to spend four years as a leg when my goal has always been becoming a member of the 75th Ranger Regiment.

Just make sure you have it in writing before you go in, anything not in writing is not valid. Hope it all works out for you Neal!

Do you have it in writing? If not, I sure as hell hope you didn't sign the dotted line.

That's the beauty of DEP. I can nullify the contract at any time for any reason before I ship. It's not a done deal until I leave for basic. It would have been nice to get a Ranger slot right off the bat, but if it's not available, then it just isn't available. This way, I'm basically at the top of the list as soon as one becomes available. I've made it 100% clear with my recruiter I will not ship with anything other than an 11x option 40 (airborne/RIP guaranteed) contract.

Neal......
GET IT IN WRITTING...
These fellows get paid to lie

I have an ex-recruiter/ARMY as a friend at work..he'd tell you anything you wanted to hear to get you to sign.

He said they were one step down from a used car salesman.

I agree with what Sam say`s, a good buddy of mine who lives in Washington state was promised the world and all he got was a corner of a garbage dump. Absolutely nothing that he was told was true. He did his hitch and got out. Regardless of what you do I wish you luck.

Good luck, I hope you get what you want.

Kinda off topic - the son of one of our Mustang club members joined the Marines a few years ago.
He's assigned to the President's helicopter. Travels everywhere with G.W.
Called his mom last Christmas from Camp David.
Very cool, I think.

Neal,,

Sounds like you are on the right track and you understand the contract..

I think it is admiral that you want to be part of a group that is one of our countries best..

Being a Ranger shows pride,, commitment and a positive strength of mind.. Qualities that will stay with you & help you throughout your life..

Be persistant and don't let anything or anyone prevent you from acheiving your dream..

Don
