Some of my close friends on M&M have e-mailed asking where I've been (and Sherra/73stp), and I guess now I'm ready to explain. As some of you may know, the company I work for (Willamette Industries) has been fighting a hostile takeover bid from Weyerhauser for the past 18 months, however two weeks ago the boards announced an agreeable stock price and the takeover is now under way. Nobody knows right now exactly how we all are going to be integrated into a combined company, what with Weyerhauser having their headquarters only 150 miles away and their own central engineering staff. Rumors are flying like crazy from total layoff to total integration and everything in between. As of this monday the 11th we will officially be Weyerhauser and on tuesday their director of engineering is coming in to our office with a "transition" team to work out the staffing details. I have worked for this company for 10 years and hate to see it end (if indeed it does), but frankly I have reached the point I don't much care. I would really only like an answer as to what is going to happen (either way--good or bad)rather than keeping me & my family's life on hold for the next 3-4 months (the announced transition time). I have other opportunities available (at much lower pay unfortunately), but would like to stick around in case everything works out and they decide to keep our office open and maintain the engineering staff. You can not believe the stress this has brought to our daily lives for the past 18 months wondering when or where this will end. I haven't really been avoiding M&M (I still drop in to give a quick looksy), however with all this going on I have been working massive overtime (being gone from the house over 13 hours per day) and am completely wore out by the time I settle in for the evening. Unfortunately my car repairs (new clutch and tranny for the '73 and body work for the '71) have been put on hold for the past year as well until I know where the finances are coming from.
Now, with that said I hope to get back into the swing of things here on M&M and hope to not stay away so much. I have quite working any overtime (screw them if they won't tell me if I still have a job) and am home at a reasonable hour with enough time to surf the net each evening.
One other item, my wife (73stp) and daughter have been wonderful throughout this whole episode and without them I may have gone over the edge on more than one occassion, and for them I am truly thankful!!!
Hope to chat with everyone soon!!

Duane,
Hang in there and keep the chin up, everything will work out for the better. I had worked for GE for 28 years, 13 in Ft Wayne Indiana and 15 here in Kentucky. Then one day they announced that our profitable plant was being sold to AO Smith. Now almost four years later, I'm still at the same location, we got to keep all of our service and vacation. Work is far more laid back than GE, and the light at the end of the tunnel is burning brighter. Give it a chance, things will work out. Do the best you can.

Mike

Duane Life has funny ways of working out, I know what it is like to have your entire life on hold, and not even be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Just keep your chin up and I know it will work out for the best

Keep your chin up buddy I got my fingers crossed for you

I wish you luck as well. As you already know, a great family is the most important thing, and everything else is secondary, so you have all your ducks in a row there. The career will work itself out, try not to let it eat at you.

We're here when you need us, buddy.
