As some of you guys know, I am having a tough time. Well it got worse on wednesday. I lost my job. I started out Tuesday with a migraine. I had actually had one for several days. So I took the kids to school and came back home to lay down and let the medicine take effect and go in at 9 instead of 8. Well, I fell asleep, woke up about noon, feeling worse than ever. I called the doctors office, went by there and had a shot, etc. If any of you have migraines, you will understand that work was the last thing on my mind. And since I worked for a flexible company, I didn't think anything of it. Well Wed morning I went to work, and was fired for not calling in. They then had the nerve to ask me if I would train someone to do my job.
I was stupid and violated rule #1 which is CYA and I violated rule #2 which is never work for family. My employer is my husband's aunt and uncle.

Someone slap me for being stupid please

I had one yesterday that was just as bad today... got so much work to do i couldn't rest...14 hrs of welding today, most of the time with the phone ringing... no breaks for meals... funny enough i feel better now than in the morning.

Wish i could fire myself!

Migraines are terrible, the few I've had really stopped the world, couldn't focus my eyes, tunnel vision, sensitive to light, ready to blow chunks etc.....
Work is the last thing on your mind when they hit you hard.

Shell, a new door of opportunity was just opened for you, jump through with both feet.

This was the exact point I tried to get through to my boss. It wasn't that I didn't care about my job, I just wanted the pain to stop. And what is the point of calling in at 2 in the afternoon to tell them you're not gonna be there. They already knew I wasn't there.

I am still looking for that window to jump out of off,, Oh wait, I meant jump through

At least I still have my sense of humor, huh?

I'm sorry you're in that quagmire, Shell. Better days ahead! You'll be much better not working for family. People treat you much better when they know you can sue them.

Tom, you may have cluster headaches. While women tend to get migraines, which are intense but short, men sometimes get cluster headaches which are intense but can last for long periods of time. I have cluster headaches and the symptoms are a very sharp stabbing pain behind my right eye, watering of the eye, dimmed vision like there's a light out in the corner of the room, sensitivity to light, and nausea. I suffered with cluster headaches for years, until I met my current dr. {I had a headache for 6 months, once} He gave me a drug in sample form that shut them off like a light switch. I don't remember the name, it was 'hydrochloric ________ something' I think. Now if I catch my cluster headache quick enough I can stop it with Excedrin Migraine. If it lasts more that a week I see my dr and get
another free sample.

You may have to educate your dr about this; my previous dr heard my complaints about this for quite a while and did nothing. I didn't get relief until I found a smarter dr.

Check it out. Once I got a handle on this problem, it really improved my life!

Sorry to hear about your job loss Shell

I am also sorry to inform you that you are too young to be having a mid-life crisis. I should know, I am close to the same age as you (think I'm a little older)and am going thru some really bad s**t myself. My employer, decided that even though I signed a written agreement, that they didnt need to honor it and took away the job I was doing and moved me to a department that has my back all screwed up, again. For the second time in less than three months I am off work with back problems, but the rotten company I work for wont admitt its due to the job I'm doing although my Dr. claims it is. I am so fed up with them, that I have been telling everyone in management that they are a bunch of liars, and where they can stick their ever-changing policies. I figure they are gonna get tired of my mouth and fire me pretty soon. Oh well, been there 12 years and after 6 years I had obviously climbed as high as I was going to.

Dont let it get to you, it's just a job, and if they dont care anymore than that about your physical health, it's not a good place to be (speaking from my experiance here).

I would be clad to sent some info to ask your Dr. about. Believe me when I say there are good companies looking for good people.
Wanting you to train your replacement just shows how stupid they are or THINK that you are ?

OK, it just can't get any worse. I went and picked up my final check today from my employer and a friend of mine from there & we headed off to have lunch. We were stopped for a car in front of us to turn left, the car turned just as we were plowed into from behind. This has just not been my week. I am pretty dang sure my car is damaged enough they will total it. it's a 94 thunderbird and I am sure repairs will exceed book value on it. it would crank and run but barely would move. Side panel directly behind driver door has huge buckle in it where the back in was pushed in, front windshield cracked and nothing touched it, Bumper, trunk and both rear quarter panels suffered damage.

On the good side, I was called today from a company for an interview on Tuesday. it's in greensboro, but if the pay is right, I will make that drive. Wish me luck in getting all this resolved gang. I sure seem to have a big ole cloud hanging over my head. Hopefully the wind has picked up and will blow it away. I have had about enough of it. I keep telling myself I will come out on top of all this a much stronger person.

Hey Shell, talk about a screwing...corporate America comes thru again.....this is unbelievable and gets me totally PO'd...
Not one for lawyers and suing, but it would seem to me you have a legitimate grief under the "American's with disability Act" !!
Really...I'd look into it....
As far as mid life crisis'...I'm 55 and in my 5th or 6th (mid life crisis) which at my age is probably better called 2/3rd's life crisis....in fact I think I went right from puberty to mid life crisis....
And skipped adolesence entirely !!!!
