O.K. , not a big deal for anybody else , but , for me it is truly a life altering anniversary. On Jan 7th it will be 3 years since I quit smoking , I started at the age of 12 and quit at the age of 38. I put in 26 years of hard core lung destruction. I gave up coffee when I was 31 , and , for the next 7 years my habit increased from 1 1/2 packs a day to 4 packs a day. The only reason it did not completely destroy me , is because, I was so involved in sports of every kind and did alot of running. I guess it helped me keep my head above water. What really did it for me, to help me quit was the fact that my dad , also , a heavy smoker was diagnosed with lung cancer. It was a kick in the face for me , and , woke me up , got me thinking about my kids , and , my grand son who was just born at that time. Dad went through radiation and a lung operation , but , sadly it was to late for him , he died on Dec 1st 2000, all the treatments and operations bought him a bit more time , but , it was a sh!tty quality of life. I did not want to go through the same thing , so , I quit. If any of you are thinking of quiting all I can say is try your hardest , put your mind to it , and , the rewards you get back can never be matched. Better health, better tasting food , better smelling everything, but , the best of all, is, a prolonged life with all of your family and friends

Time to get off the soap box , sorry to rant , but , this is very special to me. Miss you Dad

Congrats, John. That is a milestone that I hope to hit one of these days. November 24, 2001 is when I quit after 20 plus years of smoking. It has been a tough road, but it is getting better.

Good for you George, keep up the good work , it is well worth the effort and hardship you will go through to reach your goal, if I can do it anybody can.

Good for you Dave, you are never to old to quit. I started with filterless Viceroy , price was right, I stole them from my dad.

Congrats to you, John!!

I quit about four years ago for about two years, then I picked it back up. One of those, oh, this won't hurt with this cold beer...I'm going out of town and it won't hurt to have a few smokes while I'm on vacation, Hot coffee & a cigarette, STRESS, STRESS, STRESS......

After a night out with the grrls, it's not so much a beer hangover the next day as it is the cigarette hangover. YUCK!!!

I've never gone back to the pack and a 1/2 addiction, but I may have three or four a day....and I don't know what those three or four mean to me.......

Congrats to you, though. I'm gonna beat mine soon!!

Way to go John & George...

I have seen friends try to quit alcohol, drugs, etc... SMOKING is by far the most addicting of them all...

You should be very proud...

The date is Feb 7th , not Jan 7th. Not a big deal just thought I would clarify.
