It became offical today at a 10:00am meeting...as of March 28th I am unemployed !!! 6 1/2 years ago I started work at "Philips Technology"...5 years ago they were bought by "VDO Controls"...and then 1 year ago a huge foreign company ("Siemens Corporation") bought us and announced almost immediately that they were closing our North American plant ?!?!? The feeling is that they just wanted to get there claws into the American auto industry....WELL THEY DID !!! Its been real sad watching people with a lot more years than me leaving over the last few months . God I hate looking for and then starting a new job.
I just had to vent a little, I hope nobody minded.

That sucks! Sorry Ken!

Man, I hate corporations! "Hey, let's not compete, we can buy our competition and then shut them down." If that isn't anti-trade, I don't know what is...

Better days are ahead for you, Ken, I can feel it! You'll probably find a better job at better pay. Good luck, buddy!

Like the post about how the foreign car mfrs DIDN'T help the cause after 9-11-01.

With public corporations, there's no stopping them. By the way, M&Fords and MMonthly went from Emap to Primedia. A foreign co., was told. Also heard, look for things to tighten up. Also, heard that this group also bought Mustangs Illustrated. Next thing, they'll suck up MCA. LOL

Ouch! I'm sorry to hear that Ken. I swear, it sure as heck would be nice if we all had our dream jobs that paid tons of money, with great bosses and fantastic co-workers.

Alas, we live in the real world.

I hope you find something even better than what you had, Ken. And I hope you find yourself happy. Try not to stress too much. I know that's easier said than done, but try anyway, buddy.

Thanks everyone....I was basically venting here. I don't think I'll have too much trouble finding a job, its like I said earlier...I just hate starting new jobs...you just never know what to expect !!!
I'll be updating the resume ASAP because I don't feel like I owe these people anything.
I do know that they would HATE to loose their only Moldmaker earlier than they anticipated...OH-WELL

Sorry to hear of it Ken
The company I work for (Actually consult with) for the past 10 years was just taken over in a hostile takeover by a larger competitor, so I may be in the same boat before too much longer. But like others have said, we (you and I) have to view this as an open opportunity.
Hope all works out for the best for you!!!

Ken, sorry to hear it!
I agree with you that searching for/getting into a new job is never fun, my dad went through it for 4 or 5 months after working for his company for almost 20 years!

But like everyone has said, maybe a fresh start will reap even more rewards

Damn! Sounds like they are planning to have you working 0 hours a week! Don't ignore the writing on the wall! When I look back over my recent adventure, I now realized I had about 1 year of warning signs.

BRAVO! I like your outlook! Ken, when you look at it this way, good things are bound to happen and you got 60 days to do it. Chin up! Get out those classifieds, start pounding the pavement, and sell, sell, sell yourself! You'll do fine my friend

Ken,
Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but on the bright side being a moldmaker/toolmaker your expertise is always in demand. At least they gave you advanced notice.

The ones I feel for are the people who worked for small companies that were owned by Enron. A guy on the news worked for an electric company, which was owned by Enron, he is 55 and his total retirement was tied up in Enron stocks, lost a $500,000 nestegg.
