Hey there folks

I'm still on the hunt for more reliable transportation. Found a very nice loaded 97 Maxima but the dealer seemed pretty sleazy and wouldn't budge on the price so I walked. Found a fairly good deal on a 95 Accord that I'm going to check out further this afternoon. Has about 80,000 miles on it (125kms) but is in very nice shape, fully loaded and has the V6 which is a must have in my eyes. The pricing on the imports here in Vancouver is a bit inflated over other areas of the country due to the large Asian population here - not to stereotype but most don't seem to want domestic vehicles which increases the used import prices quite a bit.

On another related note, seeing as this IS a Ford site, after all... what opinions do y'all have on a 93/94 Explorer with roughly 80-100K miles? There are some great prices on these now since the intro of the new body style last year. The "professional" reviews I've seen on this era Explorer are mediocre but the owner reviews are for the most part very good.

I know it's a reach asking THIS group if they have opinions, but I'm desparate!

As always, any assistance is appreciated. The sooner, the better as I'll have to make a decision on the Accord tonight or tomorrow AM or else let it go.

Thanks!

Scott,
We have a '95 Explorer and have over 100K miles on it now. The only major problems were replacing the battery and the spare tire winch. Never wind up the spare tire winch without weight on it. It was an eighty dollar education from the school of hard knocks. Other than that, we can't complain one bit.

Dave, I know that there are some people out there that love their Explorers, but "in the biz" these are "stay away" vehicles. For every story like yours there are 4 others that have had to replace 1, 2, 3 or more transmissions. Front hubs are another weak point. The 93's in particular are prone to having their paint come off in large sheets on the hood and roof. They wear out their front tires at an alarming rate. I would never recommend an older Exploder to a friend.

Well my wife's company car has been an Exploder for the last 9 years. '92,'95,'95,92,'98'00 totaling over 400,000 miles. I'd buy a 92 still I've hear of the problems with them too. The '00 just put on 39,992 when the trany went WHEW! covered under Warrantee! and I know who has the first '92 and it has over 200,000 now with only new hubs at 145K. I like the '92 the Best. Just remember It's new to you!
Question tho, With 0% I would look at a New car to compair total life time cost. I love my Focus! My best friend just bought a Escape and they threw in 100K warrentee for 1 dollar over invoice & 0%
