The Elk that is... My sister and her husband are here from San Diego, CA and I took them out to see the Elk in our area. We pulled up to this canyon with a big stand of Aspen Trees, I stopped the truck, got out with my bull bugle call... I think my sister thought I was pulling her leg when I told her I was going to see if I could get any of the bulls to talk to me... Well, I gave out a Big Bugle and a bull answered right back... COOL... They couldn't believe it. He kept answering my bull and cow calls... Called him up to within about 200 yards, before he heard us talking and went back into the trees... They are an awesome animal... I've actually called 6 point bulls within 20 yards when we are in full camo in the hills... Don

Don! You brave rascal!!! How many shots to bring this big guy down?? Did everyone see the stupid man who poured female elk urine over his clothing to "attract" a bull elk and nearly got killed? (His wife kept filming!!! )Do you eat elk meat? Did you save the antlers...I've got 20 questions!! I'll bet your "game" room has antlers all over the walls... Don, you are truly a rugged outdoorsman who is as gentle as a big old bear!! [This message has been edited by Mustang Tally (edited 09-28-2001).]

Tally, Yes I kept the antlers. 2 shots.. Acually the first one did all the damage, but we didn't know it... Elk meat is very good. Low Fat and delicious. Cook it up with garlic and olive oil, then just before serving, flamb? it with brandy....Yum...Bob, Getting an Elk Tag in Nevada is like hitting the lottery. But it never hurts to try. I'd be happy to take anyone on a hunt. Best thing to do is a photo hunt anytime in September. Just give me a call. After the Rutt the Bulls leave the herd and just hang with other Bulls. They got what they wanted and now it's time to hang with your buds and share stories...LOL Don

Don, How do you train them to lie down and let you sit on their back like that? I would have thought that they would put up a fuss. Later! Joel------------------ *|* \_/ Joel Theriault San Jose, Ca. Don, Great pictures. Elk meat is wonderful. Like Don said, very lean. Our butcher in Colorado always had to add some fat to the meat when making hamburger. Otherwise it would fall apart. Have fun hunting Don. I do miss going hunting for elk. Great way to fill the freezer with meat.
