Ever heard a song that made you reflect on life?I was listening to a country station and they played a new tune by David Ball. The name of the tune is Riding with Private Malone. The tune is about a guy just gettting out of the service and went to look for a car. Looking through the ads, he finds one that intrigues his interest. So he goes to check it out. The car was bought new by a soldier right before he was shipped to Viet Nam. Well, here is the lyrics to the song. Very well written song. It tore me up... I was just out of the service thumbing through the classifieds when an ad that said old Chevy some how caught my eye the lady didn't know the year or even if it ran but I had that thousand dollars in my hand
It was way back in the corner of this old ramshackle barn thirty years of dust and dirt on that green army tarp when I pulled the cover off it took away my breath what she'd called a Chevy was a sixty six Corvette I felt a little guilty as I counted out the bills but what a thrill I got when I sat behind the wheel I opened up the glove box and that's when I found the note the date was nineteen sixty six and this is what he wrote (chorus) He said my name is Private Andrew Malone if you're reading this then I didn't make it home but for every dream that's shattered another one comes true this car was once a dream of mine now it belongs to you and though you may take her and make her your own you'll always be riding with Private Malone Well it didn't take me long at all I had her running good I love to hear those horses thunder underneath her hood I had her shining like a diamond and I'd put the rag top down all the pretty girls would stop and stare as I drove her through town the buttons on the radio didn't seem to work quite right but it picked up that oldie show especially late at night I'd get the feeling sometimes if I turned real quick I'd see a soldier riding shotgun in the seat right next to me (chorus) It was a young man named Private Andrew Malone who fought for his country and never made it home but for every dream that's shattered another one comes true this car was once a dream of his back when it was new he told me to take her and make her my own and I was proud to be riding with Private Malone One night it was raining hard I took the curve too fast I still don't remember much about that fiery crash someone said they thought they saw a soldier pull me out they didn't get his name but I know without a doubt (chorus) It was a young man named Private Andrew Malone who fought for his country and never made it home but for every dream that's shattered another one comes true this car was once a dream of his back when it was new I know I wouldn't be here if he hadn't tagged along that night I was riding with Private Malone oh thank God I was riding with Private Malone
The album that this song is on will be out on October 25th. George [This message has been edited by UnbridledFury (edited 08-22-2001).]

I like the lyrics to that song, but it seems I have a little different taste in "emotional" songs. How about these:Metallica - Fade to Black Pantera - Hollow Testament - The Ballad ST - How Will I Laugh Tomorrow? Concrete Blonde - Tomorrow, Wendy http://blonde.vox.org/cgi-bin/lyricsread.cgi?Bloodletting/Tomorrow,_Wendy Iced Earth - Watching Over Me Sacred Reich - Who's to Blame? PH8 - Most everything www.mindspring.com/~nando2/lyrics.htm Metal Church - In Harm's Way http://www.metalchurch.com/human.html#Harm's

I'm greedy I have three; As those who went to Reno are aware I played Australian Rules football for a team called The Panthers. We didn't win very often but when we did, we would stand in a circle in the locker rooms and sing Tom Jones song 'Whats New Pussycat' to which we would shout 'WINNING' My second, and I'm sure Stewart could also relate to this, after attending the Police Cells with a customer, upon placing the said customer behind bars we would break into a randition of Queens 'Another One Bites The Dust' And the last. Again with a Police flavour. Upon being tasked to the 'fridge' (local morgue) it was traditional to sing Monty Pythons 'Look On The Bright Side Of Life'. Not because we were callus, but it took our minds aware from the awful but necessary tasks we were performing.

I'll second that. Another Clapton song comes to mind as well..."Tears in Heaven." I had heard the song for a few weeks, then I found out what it was about...changed my whole perspective on that song. "American Pie" by Don McLean is another one. And "Cat's in the Cradle" by...um...Jim Croce?? I forget who it's originally by, but I know Ugly Kid Joe did a cover several years ago. ...mind you, I don't usually listen to that type of music either. Okay, thanks. Sorry..hehe. Just I've heard that so many artists did it, it's hard to keep the right one straight. And about "Black" by Pearl Jam...missed the original post. But yeah, that's a good song. It's probably something about that line that goes, "I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star...in somebody else's sky, but why...can't it be, how can it be, mine?" ------------------ Frank S.----MCA Member 40390 '99 Mustang coupe '77 Ghia--"II Good" '76 Cobra--project

1)Kenny Chesney - What I Need To Do2)Tim McGraw - Everywhere 3)Gary Allen - Smoke Rings In The Dark 4)Gary Allen - Right Where I Need To Be 5)Garth Brooks - The Dance I prefer Rock, but for some reason, I can almost never find meaning to it, it's just high energy music that keeps me awake most of the time, when I want meaning, I listen to country, much of it makes sense and I can relate to, there's alot more there, but I'm too tired to think of them right now

"Roses for Momma" by C.W McCall "I Never Knew Love" By Doug Stone "What Might have Been" by Lonestar (back when they were good) this Song ties very well with a Relative of mine... Her mother die in a Car wreck, and her Father and brother were Murdered (think about that, then the Lyrics): "Try not to think about what might have been, because that was then and we have taken different roads. We can't go back again, theres no use giving in, and theres no way to know what might have been."
