Teee heeeee!! Everybody has seen the one about the southerner moving north in the winter..... turn about is fair play.... ********* A Visit to South Florida: April 30th: Florida is fantastic! Just got here and love it already. Now this is a state that knows how to live!! Beautiful sunny days and warm balmy evenings. What a place! Watched the sunset from a park lying on a blanket. It was beautiful. I've finally found my home. I love it here. May 14th: Really heating up. Got to 89 today. Not a problem, live in an air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to see the sun every day like this. I'm turning into a real sun worshipper. June 5th: Had the backyard landscaped with tropical plants today. Lots of palms and rocks. What a breeze to maintain. No more mowing for me. NO MORE SHOVELING SNOW EITHER! Another scorcher today, but I love it here. July 1st: The temperature hasn't been below 90 all week, not even at night. Where are those ocean breezes we heard about, still seems hot. Getting used to it will take a while, I guess. I sure miss my LP collection, though. I'll have to remember not to leave anything made out of plastic in my car. Got one of those fuzzy steering wheel covers, Cheaper than the burn ointment for my hands. I always wondered what burnt flesh smelled like. July 15th: Fell asleep by the pool. (Got 2nd degree burns over 60% of my body.) Missed two days of work, what a dumb thing to do. I learned my lesson though: got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this. July 20th: I miss our cat, Tabby. He snuck into the car when I left this morning. By the time I got out to the hot car for lunch, he'd swollen up to the size of a shopping bag and just as I opened the door he exploded all over $2,000 worth of leather upholstery. I told the kids he ran away. The car now smells like kibbles and poop. No more pets in this heat! July 25th: Ocean breezes, my *** . Hot is hot!! The home air conditioner is on the fritz and AC repairman charged $200 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order parts. Only hope for a break in the heat would be a hurricane. July 30th: Been sleeping outside by the pool for three nights now. Swatting the swamp mosquitoes that are as big as B-52's. $1,500 in darn house payments and we can't even go inside. Why did I ever come here? Aug 4th: 100 degrees. Finally got the air conditioner fixed today. It cost $500 and gets the temperature down to about 90. The electric bill is almost as much as the house payment. And two old lady drivers almost ran me off the road. I hate this state. Aug 8th: If another wise jerk cracks, "Hot enough for you today?" I'm going to tear his head off. Damn heat. By the time I get to work the radiator is boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell! like roasted Garfield!! Aug 10th: The weather report might as well be a damn recording: Hot and sunny. It's been too hot two #@*& months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week. And who came up with the statement "it may be hot, but at least you don't have to shovel it" should die from heat exhaustion. Doesn't it ever rain in this G-d forsaken place?? Aug 14th: Welcome to Hell!!! Temperature got to 102 today. Forgot to crack the window and blew the windshield out of the Lincoln. The installer came to fix it and said, "Hot enough for you today?" My wife had to spend the $1,500 house payment to bail me out of jail. Aug 30th: Worst day of the summer. I'm not leaving the house. The monsoon rains finally came and all they did is to make it muggier than hell and drove the damned roaches out of the ground. I wasn't aware they could fly! The Lincoln is now floating somewhere in the Caribbean with its new $500 windshield. That does it, we're moving back to New York where all you have to worry about is getting mugged, I hope this state breaks in half and floats down to Cuba!

Summer is really my favorite time! All the Quebecians are back home LOL! and others! and it's hot but not as bad as Chicago or St.Louis on a hot humid summer day! I'm a warm weather person anyway, which is why my home and cars are AIR CONDITIONED!! and I don't lie in the sun!! LMAO!! The woodgrain wheel on my 65 never gets TOO hot to grab! In spite of the threat of Hurricanes, {in our worst period now}, I don't have to post those sad wails, like someone who shall remain nameless, screaming "I HATE SNOW!!" Really LMAO!! And we're not going to have ANYMORE CHADS!! My last month's electric bill was $117 for a 3 bdrm, 2 bath home with central AC and a turned off pool. In the winter my bill is about $70. I LOVE FLORIDA!

Pete, I'm with you. Last months electric bill was $149.00. That is for a four bedroom home with central heat and air. Yes, it has been humid up here in the Panhandle, but what do you expect after nine inches of rain in two weeks. I will stay in Florida, thank you. "Don't name your kid Chad!". There's one thing that I do not like about Florida- you cant walk barefoot in your yard. The grass is all yucky and full of roots, and there's them red ants, among other larger insects and reptiles.

Those things scare me. One thing I'll miss about MA is that you can go for a walk in the woods and dont have to worry about being getting bit.

Down here, you have to worry about getting bit, just walking outside. Mosquitos! And they just happen to be carrying the West Nile Virus nowadays The only good bug, is a dead bug! And if you go wandering around in the woods, gotta keep and ear and eye out for those rattlers and copperheads. Welcome to the south. Oh yeah, don't forget the Black Widows and Brown Recluse spiders and scorpions... Mike

Suzy, don't let Mike scare you. All the things he says are true, but OFF or Cutter usually do the job just fine. If I'm going to be out in the yard working for any amount of time, I usually use one of those to keep the skeeters at bay. And for the kiddies, they make sunscreen with bug stuff already in it..... That's one reason, though, why Indian Summers are so GLORIOUS!!! While the rest of the country is having snow or sleet or cold weather, we've had a nice frost to kill all the pest and beautiful warm days to enjoy a cruise around in the classic or the convertible! Yup, Fall, Winter and Spring.... those are the seasons! (oh, but don't tell anyone, o.k.?)

Ked, You can't swat a Palmento Bug down here. You stomp on it until you see or hear it's shell crack. Don't bother spraying a Palmento Bug with Raid. They just gurgle the stuff and spit it right back at you. That's only 90-150 per mo. Then why is everyone complaining about high fuel bills? That's as good as it gets. My summer elec bill is considered low for here and my winter 65-75, also. Still not enough to get me back up North! LOL!

The biggest propane bill we ever has last winter during the mid-season raping when we got a bill for $200. I have a super-insulated house and we keep it at a constant 74. The garage has electric heat, and that can add as much as $30/mo. to the electric bill. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 M code 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Lok '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip '97 Probe GTS 2.5L DOHC Ford. LOL!!! Suzy!!!! I think only the fortunate folks that live in the "Sandhills" have the fortunate luck to have the Palmetto Bugs!! Of course, I could be wrong, but I sure don't remember having them until we moved to Fayetteville. Also, we used to have a pool in the back yard. They hung out around that for the water....It'd take about three or four smacks with a shoe to kill the ones that tried to invade the house (always when it started to cool down outside in the Autumn). Geez, a whole list???? I don't know if I could compose everything on the list.... Just get ya a can of Raid (for the house) and a can of Cutter (for yourself) and you'll be o.k......

Ah yes Florida, the ninth plane of hell.....Temperatures in the 90's, but with a cool rain everyday. And once the rain quits you can slice through the humidity. Misqueeters carrying not only the West Nile Virus but also Equine Encephalitus (sp) normally not harmful to humans, but another man died of it yesterday. Not to mention they ARE as big as B-52's. I have a 10 foot water macassin living down in our gator pit. Don't forget the Gators!!! And lately, the sharks have been congregating and feisting on swimmers. So don't go swimming to cool off!! You might be lunch!! Ah yes, Florida the ninth plane of Hell PS my electric bill is about $200 for a 2000 sq ft house.

Ahhh yes..the roads... never quite realized how BAD they are up here until we went south.I did not see ONE pothole down south. Ive got 3 of them within a 1/4 mile of my house up here! We spend $900/year in heating oil, $150/MONTH in gas for the hot water and stove and $80/month in electric. Thats $3660 a year in utilities. Looking at the average utility bill in Garner, NC....$2500/year (with electric heat and a/c). I like that.

We've properly disposed of a half dozen water mocassins within the last three years. The sceeters here are smaller than their brethren in North Dakota. I've got 2700 sq.ft. 100% electric, and I look at about $1500/yr. Not bad since I keep it at 72 year round for the most part. It is programmable, so it does drop when we're not here. Highly recommend those things!Gets very humid here (right near the Chesapeake Bay), but the winters are typically tame. Snowstorm or two every year but nothing that's not gone in a week or so. Just enough to enjoy! Now about that green door...

Suze: You're gonna love it in N. C. Don't let the Palmetto Bug thing worry you...We do not have them in W-S...but may be worse down toward Fayetteville...I have bunches of mosquitoes...Have to "oil-up" when I go out to dig in the yard (i.e.flower beds, pull weeds, etc.) Fayetteville is about 2 hours from where your new house is going to be.... We do have poison snakes: water moccasins, copperheads, and up in the mountain and foothills there are rattlesnakes...you"re about 4 hours from the mtns...copperheads are slow and very aggressive...they will not make any haste to move out of your way...so if you don't see one while you're out hiking...walking...etc. he could be a threat... Get a book at the library when you arrive here and become acquainted with all local bothersome things...It is not as bad as we are making it to be...we just know they are out there... No alligators...unless some goof-ball has let a "pet" go into the public waterways...and there may be some which have migrated up the coast from S.C. Don't be afraid, Suzy...We'll protect you...
