Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a highway traffic cop. Your normal speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side when he sees the big red light behind him...and then we will start apologizing, begging for mercy. This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop-heart. The thing to do - when you're running along about a hundred or so and you suddenly find a red-flashing CHP-tracker on your trail - what you then want to do is accelerate. Never pull over with the first siren-howl. Mash it down and make the bastard chase you at speeds of 120 all the way to the next exit. He will follow. But he won't know what to make of your blinker-signal that says you're about to turn right. This is to let him know that you're looking for a proper place to pull off and talk...keep signalling and hope for an off-ramp, one of those uphill side-loops with a sign saying "Max Speed 25"...and the trick, at this point, is to suddenly leave the freeway and take him into the chute at no less than a hundred miles an hour. He will lock his brakes at about the same time that you lock yours, but it will take him a moment to realize that he's about to make a 180-degree turn at this speed...but you will be ready for it, braced for the Gs and the fast heel-toe work, and with any luck at all you will have come to a complete stop off the road at the top of the turn and be standing beside your automobile by the time he catches up. He will not be reasonable at first...but no matter. Let him calm down. He will want the first word. Let him have it. His brain will be in a turmoil: he may begin jabbering, or even pull his gun. Let him unwind; keep smiling. The idea is to show him that you were always in control while he lost control of everything author: Hunter S. Thompson

I think I tried that once, on a motorcycle, it was many years ago, bail was only $250 if I remember correctly, cop was really pissed that he couldn't keep up with me, gave me all kinds of tickets, lost my license for 12 months too. ------------------ Stuart MCA #48902 67 stang 5 speed 91 f-150 xlt 98 explorer xlt sohc v-6

The original ticket would have been a WHOLE bunch cheaper, but I was young and dumb, you can outrun the cop car but you can't outrun the radio in the cop car, speeding up to a roadblock is a rude awakening. This took place 20 years ago this July 4, don't think I'll celebrate with another run.

"Yes officer I know I was speeding. But I have a good reason. You were chasin' me" Hmmmmmmmmmm......that didn't work either. Lost my license over a slight mis-understanding such as that. He wanted me to pull over and I didn't understand

A guy once told me he was let go with a warning after being pulled over doing a hundred plus MPH. He was in a Jensen Interceptor and he told the cop he was blowing the carbon out of his combustion chambers, a necessity in his high performance car. The cop thanked him for doing it late at night on a deserted road...------------------ 1971 M-Code Convertible, 351 4v, Hurst 4-spd, Posi-Traction, Ram Air Hood, Disk Brakes, 275x60 GT Qualifiers, Gauge Package

i once bs-ed my way out of a ticket... i told the fine officer that i just bought the car. it came with 13 inch wheels and i put 15's on it to make it original and i guess the speedometer has been recalibrated for the 13's and after he issued me a summons would he kindly do 35 then 45 so i knew how fast i was really going and.... and... he just said "ok buddy i know you are lyin through your teeth but that was the best line of sh*t i heard all week." so he let me go and just said "i'll be watchin you BOY!" ------------------ scott todds' dad(19fordmav72) another Warsteiner lover. and warsteiner isn't all that expensive!

I once got a ticket for "high rate of acceleration". I had shifted from first to second at five grand. Told the judge the passing gear linkage was jammed and the transmission wouldn't shift out of first till that speed (it could happen). The cop wasn't there but in a written statement said that that I had gone straight through an intersection. I told the judge that I had turned right through the intersection (the truth). I got off with probation for six months. I guess the cop figured I couldn't have been going that fast unless I had gone straight through the intersection. my best was on the way home from work at 3 am ,deserted Hwy #17 is a straight 2 miles after the sweeping corner south of the tunnel... fresh 390 in the Ranchero, needed to see if it was that much faster than the old one (12.95 @109 best)... i came around the bend about 70mph (sign said slow to what?) and saw the coast was clear and tromped on it, 6500rpm in 3rd,then up to 6000 in 4th gear, speedo well buried when i noticed headlights looming large in the rearview I pulled over thinking i'm gonna be in with Manson (Charlie not that tranny Marilyn) Cop says he clocked me at 120Km per hr (about 70mph) ...hahaha...he musta been near the corner! He asked for my license and regi... as he walked back to his car there was chatter on his radio he came running up to my window quickly handed my ID back and said "Keep it under the limit" and rushed off to the sound of "2-11 in progress" or something similar... i could hardly stop from crying as his Crown Vic blazed past me with the lights going!
