Besides the different size of the weight thats cast into the flywheel, what difference (if any) would there be in total weight between a early 289ci-28oz flywheel and a later 302ci-50oz one ???Should these two flywheels be almost identical (within 3 ounces) in weight TIA ------------------ What makes men chase women they have no intention of marrying? Balance and style of the flywheel has no relationship. You can have a 8 inch flywheel that has a 50 oz balance as well as a 11 inch flywheel. The balance is the amount of weight that is hung on the ends of the crankshaft to keep it running smooth and vibration free. You have a 50 oz flywheel Ken. I'm not sure about your balancer as I have not seen it. Did you ever check and see if the pressure plate was installed parrallel with the weight of the flywheel?------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! I believed you when you confirmed that it was in fact a 50ouncer Alex. I would NEVER, EVER doubt you in the first place. Please forgive me if I was misunderstood I was just curious as to whether or not the two flywheels should weigh the same ?? As far as the pressure plate being lined up with the flywheel, are you referring to the weights on each of them ?? ------------------ What makes men chase women they have no intention of marrying? Yes on the weights Ken. They should be matched up when you bolt on the pressure plate. That is the most common source of vibration that I encounter on a 5.0 based combo.Flywheel weight is dependent on several specifics. IE: Material, clutch diameter, and ring gear style. All of that, coupled with the amount of weight added or subtracted that is neccesary to achive proper balance, will give you the overall weight. SO to answer your question, no the two flywheels you own do not have to be even close in overall weight. OK? ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! Hang on a bit Alex. I'm going to take this flywheel to a very reputable shop here tomorrow to have the balance checked out (I guess thats what you'd say) and if they say everythings alright with it then I'll just have it resurfaced and put it back in. I'll let you know Definately putting in a new clutch though !!! Do the finger clutches with have a visible weight on them because I can't see any

Ken, How you doing these days? Ford Carlisle is only about four months away! I have the 50 oz flywheel (Centerforce rebalanced to 28 oz) in the Fastback; and also installed the Centerforce 10.5" diaphram clutch. I have a question after reading this thread...what did Alex mean by.. "Did you ever check and see if the pressure plate was installed parrallel with the weight of the flywheel?". I don't remember doing anything special other than bolting the pressure plate/clutch on. Are there other things to take into consideration? Bernie
