The problem i had with the Torque Converter not fully seating is not due to the hub engagement with the front pump, i now think the problem is that the Input Shaft is not reaching the splines in the Torque Converter and that only the Stator Support and the Hub are engaging correctly. This is either due to the Input Shaft not being long enough or the Torque Converter Hub is too long.
What do you guys think?

Who's converter is it? I believe that is the source of the problem. If the shaft is the original 24 spline unit, it is not a shaft problem.

The shaft is a Performance Automatic hardened Input Shaft but i am pretty sure its the same length as the stock one. Im not sure on the brand of the Torque Converter (bought from a friend) i think its also a Performance Automatic converter but i may be mistaken. The Hub on the Torque converter is longer than the one on the old converter, that may be the problem but the new converter is a 9 inch one so the Hub may have to be longer.

Hub on the converter should be the same length as the old one, no matter what the diameter is.

Do Transmission shops cut down Torque Converter Hubs? How much do they charge?

No, no, no!
Hub length can vary!
It's the overall hieght that is important. Lay the new converter and the old converter flat on the pilot side. Then place a straight edge accross the two hubs and see it they are the same overall hieght.

The crux of the problem unfortunatly is that you have a bunch of used parts that you are unsure of.
I was not aware that anyone produced a billet 24 spline input shaft for one thing. Possible I guess.
For all you know, that may not even be a C-4 converter.

Roger that... I've got a Yank converter and sent it off to get rebuilt after the sprag took a dump. When I got it back and installed it, no line pressure. Mike installed a shorter hub and it wouldn't turn the pump.... check it!

Sorry Alex. I should of known that. couldn't the pilot length vary a little too, how deep it goes into the crankshaft. wouldn't a better measurment to compare converters be from the four lugs where the converter bolts to the flexplate to the tip of the hub?
