we went to the track yesterday .... the weather was fantastic .... the temps stayed in the 60's during the flawless sunny hours and got down into the high 40's for my final run of the nite .... i had not raced in three weeks and was rearing to go!!!i got the best time so far out of my car ..... the best times were: 1.652 60' 4.881 330' 7.620 ET @ 90.610 MPH this best ET was also my first chance to finally break the 90 mph zone.... so i was quite happy! even with a bad starter and non-working alternator the car was running really well ..... what i absolutely adore is the fact that the car is fully dressed, runs on 93 pump-gas and all we have to do to drive her on the street [~ahem~ legally!] is put some mufflers on her and some DOT tires on the rear.... so ..... i am thinking .... hmmmmmm ...... not bad for a street car! kk

I'm dam impressed, I keep watching your progress. I hope to have my car as fast as yours one day. Your mph are about the same as mine but I'm running the 1/4. Your motor is just about the same as the one I hope to build. I'm going to go with 3.80 gears and a 3000-3500 stall with 8" slicks. So our cars should be real close when I get mine done.P.S. Your RT and 60 foot times are awesome. I really need to come spend the weekend with you two. ------------------ SCOOP 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. My Pics

They might be close, but not real close. KK has a 4.11 gear, and an 8" convertor that will stall around 4800 rpm. It made a huge difference in how the car ran. It is half a second faster than the 10" streetfighter convertor was. And that's in the 1/8, so translated to 1/4 mile times, it would be close to a full second. But that 8" convertor is a little on the loose side for everyday street driving. However, I would not be afraid of it if it was a "weekend warrior." And, I must agree with KK, it is pretty danged quick for a street car, especially one with factory heads and on pump gas. Also, here is the real kicker, she has gone faster in that car then I ever did, even when I was racing it every weekend. FYI, the pass where she ran 7.62 would have been danged close to 12 flat in the qrtr. [This message has been edited by kid vishus (edited 10-19-2003).]

factory unported heads? best i ever got on factory untouched heads was an 8.30 at 87mph but that was a 1.82 60ft. they were the e7te's that came with my 1990 5.0 roller motor. the only other car i saw with e7te heads that was pump gas quick was a guy with a stipped down late model convertible. he was running high 7's on carb'd 5.0 but he had that car down to 2600 lbs. looks like you really got your launch down. if the car wasnt fully dressed and running pump gas then it wouldnt be a real street car....thats the only way i run. congrats on the new times.------------------ 306, 4speed, 4.11's....best 1/8 mile 7.58 at 92mph with 1.72 60ft. The heads have been ported, but I don't know how much as I didn't do them. They are '70 castings her brother ported years ago.We haven't scaled it, but figure it weighs around 3300-3400 lbs with driver. It's relatively heavy.

Kid, you are probably in the ball park on the weight. My '70 Mach I weighs 3380 with driver. My best runs with a streetable Cleveland was in the 7.80s. Low 12.30s in the 1/4. 60's in the high 1.6s/low 1.7s. ------------------ Ben Grabber Green '70 Mach I 351C 4V Robbin Egg Blue '79 Fairmont 351C 4V

It's probably a touch heavier than yours. We fabricated some home-made frame ties, and used some really heavy wall (I bet it was at least .250 wall) 1" square tubing. And, the front crossmember was missing and the one we made probably weighs close to 40 lbs (it was also made out of the same heavy wall tubing.)

heck maybe my car is heavier than i think it is. last time i weighed it was when i was in the marines, weighed at on base scale. it was 2900 without driver but that was with the little rear end, got a 9 inch now with locker and moser 31 axles. plus i had a 3 speed, got a toploader 4 spd. now and blowproof bell. i dont know what the weight differences of the upgrades but im sure its a lot more than i saved with the aluminum heads. plus my big 200lb carcass....man i need to get back in shape. ------------------ 306, 4speed, 4.11's....best 1/8 mile 7.58 at 92mph with 1.72 60ft. We all know one of the cheapest (not always easiest) ways to go faster is to reduce the 'weight in motion'....which directs us to that famous quote, "You want to go faster? Shrink the driver!"
