Took my duraspark apart and found.I had one light spring on the 15L which was being used. And a heavy spring on the 10L.I switched it around and put the 10L as the one used.I used the the light spring kit from Summit racing.I put two light springs on the weights with the 10L. This is what I had before I changed anything, vacuum plugged.10 initial 40 total at 4500rpm Now I have after chaging to the 10L and two light springs, 13 initial 37 total at 2500 rpm 30 at 2000rpm So next I'll try 15 initial and 39 total. All in by 2500rpm.I can't seem to get it to come in any quicker. What do you guys think? ------------------ SCOOP 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html

Not sure if I understand.... are you using the 10 or 15? I would suggest using the 10, that would give you 20* centrifugal advance, the 15 is 30* advance.btw, both weights should weigh the same.

Hey Steve you should have told me how easy it is to change the weights. One question, why is it every time I pull the dist.No matter how I mark everything and line things up.It is always off the the old timing mark when I put it back in.It seems like if it goes back the same way it came out.The timing should be the same? ------------------ SCOOP 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html

I gave you that advice weeks ago. Glad you figured it out. On the distributor removal question, just mark where the rotor is when you get the distributor out and reinstall in at the same position. It rotates as you remove it, so put it back where it came out and it'll go back where it was before you lifted it out. SteveW

How much vacuum advance timing are you getting? In other words, at idle if you run manifold vacuum, or if you have a vacuum pump, how much vacuum advance advance by it's self. If the vacuum advance is a Ford unit it will be stamped on the lever how much, double it just like the centrifugal advance. It sounds like you have too much base timing. 15 base 20 centrifugal 35 + your vacuum advance. [This message has been edited by Buster (edited 08-13-2003).]

Buster,He's not running any "stankin" vac advance! It's a race motor. SteveW

Steve I know you gave the advice some time ago.I'd never taken aprt a dist before. And I was chicken to do it.So I put all the notes on my work bench and went for it.I most say it's not a hard thing to do. I swear I've been marking my rotor but my timing always seems to be off.Do you guys think 15 is to much at idle? Buster I capped the vacuum like some well trusted members on here told me too. The car still runs great, both on the highway or on the strip. Steve a "race motor" might be reaching alittle. ------------------ SCOOP 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html

That's true, a race motor wouldn't have an advance curve and would idle at full advance. SteveW

Cool deal Scoop I don't know how I missed this post Your new curve sounds a bunch better than the old one. You capped off the vac advance? It's because I post so much. I have not noticed any ill effects from having the vacuum plugged. I have only ran the car around the block once.Since I changed the timing curv.I hope to get out soon.------------------ SCOOP 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html
