We need to get a pair of rear shocks for my pops T-bucket project. It has coil springs that are 10" tall, but I dont have any idea what rating they are? I need to know how tall of a shock I need to allow for up and down travel.I dont see the coil moving alot.I was thinking of a shock that was 8" fulling compressed and 12"-14" fully extended. What do you guys think? This is a real lite car, with a mild 351w AOD and 9" 4.11 rear.I know this seems simple to most of you.But it's all new to me.

I remember the time a buddy of mine built a 1910 mofel T C-cab street rod with a MustangII front suspension. We took it for a test ride with no front shocks. We hit a bump and the left front wheel started bouncing like a basketball!Sounds like you've got a cool ride in the works. you need to jack it up and put stands under the frame , lower the rear end till the springs become loose and that measure minus about an inch would be the extended length . Compressed length would need to be before the driveshaft hits the floor or other components bind up. There should be bump stops instead of using the shocks to bottom out.
