I think the car is pinging now. It's only when you floor it at low rpm.It sounds like it's coming from the collectors, not the motor.I check real quick under the car I can't find anything loose.I've never had the car ping before not matter what I did to it.------------------ SCOOP If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you. 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html

Back the timing off to 30 total and see if it stops pimging. If not, it isn't the timing.SteveW

Steve could it be the samller jets I changed to? The #69 to a #67. It's been real hot here too.102 today and the car is running at 200-205.------------------ SCOOP If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you. 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html

Ron,The hot engine and a lean condition can cause pinging. But not at 30* btdc! It will eliminate the doubt. SteveW

I checked the timing before I drove home.It was at 15 at idle.I know I set it at 10 the the day before. If it is moving what would cause that, and would the motor run rough? So I set it at 5 and drove it around got it nice and hot.I could not get it to ping at all.I set the timing to 10 and drove it around some more.It still would not ping.Last time I put gas in it I used a hlaf tank of 91.Maybe that helped? It was cooler out last night around 94 or so but over cast.I changed the jets back to the #69 and recghecked the timing this morning.Every thing was just how I left it at 10 degrees. No pinging on the way to work at all. ------------------ SCOOP If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you. 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html

I would never use less than 91 or 92 octane at any time. The higher the octane the slower the burn allowing you to run more advance without pinging.

In the 5years I've had my car it has never pinged before.I have always used 87 gas and never had any problems. I will start using 91 for now on.I have never run my timing this before either.Do any of you use the 104 additive stuff? ------------------ SCOOP If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you. 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html

Don't waste your money on the additive. Let's just set the timing curve for 91 octane and you'll be good to go. Steve

Cool thanks Steve,it seems ok for now with the 10 and 40 total with the #69 jets. If it pings again I'll keep backing it down until it goes away. What do you guys think would cause the timing to from 10 to 15 after driving it. Maybe I just didn't thighten the hold down enough.

This is possible because with an aftermarket manifold, sometimes a stock hold down doesn't fit right. Be careful not to overtighten the bolt. You could easily strip the threads in the aluminum.

The timing hold down bolt threads into cast iron on a Ford. Stripping aluminum is a chebby engineering f*ckup. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Please remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, Osborn Reproductions, MyFordPerformance.com, and FordRamAir.com

40* totsl timing might be part of the pinging problem even for a small block.
