hi everyone!!!

after a two and a half season hiatus, i FINALLY have something fun to play with on the strip!! HOORAY!!!

HUGE thanks to the ingenious efforts of boyfrinn (kid vishus)and my baby brother dave for taking robs 70 street stang and outfitting it with mcgee-motor ..... a fun one for me to play with until i can afford to push 'play' on my 62 fairlane project ...... we plan to get this stang street legal so i can drive it to different tracks on the occassions when our track is closed .... (i cant afford a trailer yet) so what i have is a very respectable street car .....
she is a saucy-sassy-hookin'-stripper-in-red .....
oh! yah! heh heh heh......

here is a little info:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
69 windsor heads ported with bigger valves installed and shaved down to 55 cc chambers
Comp solid lifter camshaft, 242/246 duration @ .050 .541/.522 lift 106 lsa
victor jr intake
750 DP Holley carb
flat top KB pistons .030 on truck rods with ARP bolts
blanced rotating assembly
zero decked block
hooker hedders
C4 trans with fully manual reverse pattern valvebody
TCI street fighter convertor
4.11 gear with a detroit locker
28x10.5 Hoosier slicks
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

i took a half-day off work and went to test and tune at farmington on thursday (eighth mile) ..... rob took her down the track first for a safety check.... (the brakes are weak and the accelerator is wispy) .... his time slip was:

1.847 @60'
5.397 @330'
8.334 @660
84.974 MPH

we are eventually expecting low 8's to 7.90's so i had to learn to be a little more patient and have faith the evening would produce a better ET.....

i took 5 runs and the best i got out of her for T&T was her second trip down the track:

1.796 @60'
5.265 @330'
8.162 @660'
85.740 MPH

(my best lite of the nite was a .525....)

she was running really rich and smoking all the way down the track so we decided to put dad's spare carb on her in the morning.....

went racing on friday after switching carbs before time runs started.

the best run i got was:

1.808 @60'
5.240 @330'
8.102 @660'
86.391 MPH
(i cut a .529 lite and was pleased with this run! )

SO!!!! i am one happy kat!!

we are going to T&T again wednesday, this time at roxboro .... it is closer to home and i wont have to leave work early ..... i will bring a full report .... rob just put the original carb back on her .... he repaired a massive vaccum leak .... so we are hopeful the ET's will get a bit quicker!

i am back.....
i am thrilled.......
woooooohooooooooo!!!!!!

What she didn't mention was I had a .521 lite on my pass in the car. (the reason I did take it down the track is because the car hadn't been driven at all in 5 or 6 years and I wanted to make sure everything was safe for her)

It definately needs some front brake work, and a little rear suspension work. But I honestly think it will run 7.90's before I'm done messing with it.

One thing she forgot to mention was the 8.16 pass was shifting at 6000 rpm, and the 8.10 pass the next day was shifting at 5600. It was awfully rich with my carb on it. But after discovering the vacum cap that was on the big port in the back of the baseplate was dry rotted and leaking terribly, it's amazing it ran the way it did.

All in all she did a real good job. It wont take long at all before she's putting the bowtie boys on the trailer.

Update time.

The car was pulling badly to the left, and the pedal was terribly soft (you had to pump it a couple of times before you actually got anything.) David and myself had put new wheel cylinders on the front before we took it to Test n Tune last week and bled all four brakes. It was still bad (actually wasn't any better.) We decided since the front shoes looked pretty thin that maybe that was part of the soft pedal. So today I changed the front shoes. It wasnt a lot of fun due to the lack of a garage to do it in and it was over 95* outside today. I got it all done, jumped in the car, hit the brake pedal, to the floor it went.

I decided after we ate supper to try and bleed all of them again. Guess what? After bleeding them it now has the best feeling brake pedal it has had since I can't remember when. What a difference it makes.

Rob,

Good job! Nothing like a stiff brake peddle.
