Well, after almost a year (and a bunch of money), I finally got the Comet running again. The motor, trans, converter and rear end are all fresh. I'm going to take it to Sacramento for a T&T night since the whole combo is new. My work schedule and finances are such that July 25th looks to be the soonest I'll be able to get it out. I've detuned it a bunch, I sold the aluminum heads and put a set of D0OE-R SCJ iron heads on it with a solid roller cam. I also replced the Dominator with a 4 corner idle 850 that was done by Chuck Nytten still on a Victor intake.
The rear end is now 35 spline with a new braced housing that I had Moser do and it's been narrowed 6" to allow me to use a positive offset wheel now instead of the 7 1/4" backspace that was on it before, I also ditched the Centerlines and went with a Weld Pro-Star wheel. It's got a 3.89 gear in it now and a set of homemade Cal-Trac clones that I started making a couple of years ago.
I wanted to put some time and money into the front end, but I'm out of money. I'll run it like it is for now and put some effort into the front end when I'm able to later.
I'm hoping it will still run 10.50's the way it is, but who knows? My thinking is to keep the rpm under 7000 and keep it alive for a while. It's still for sale but I can't see giving it away because it's broken and doesn't run.
Sorry for the long post, I guess I'm just fired up about having the car running again. I've been in a bit of a funk since I broke it so bad last year.

That's great news. I am glad to hear your '67 is running again. I hope to have my 1966 Comet drag strip worthy in a few months. Hey, did you already sell the Centerline wheels?

Butch,That's great news! Look forward to seeing you at the track again soon. SteveW p.s. what tranny did you use? Did the 350 survive the carnage?

SlowFord, I sold the wheels already. Steve, The 350 survived pretty good, It bent the output shaft, other than that it was in pretty good shape. I had Driveline Service of Santa Rosa make me a 3 1/2" steel driveshaft with solid 1350 series u-joints, I supplied the Strange yoke and they charged me $210.00.

Butch,That's good news. Driveline Service does good work. I've been working on the Dart, should have it ready next month for some testing. We'll see.... It's not easy starting from scratch. SteveW

glad to hear your comet is up and running. my dad also has a 67 comet cyclone, and boy does it need restored. well it's not that bad. just a motor and paint job and a lot of money. to bad it couldn't run again. i don't think that it has been raced since the mid 70's. who knows maybe it will run again!

Butch, I'm not sure I'll have the other car ready by then, but I'd like to meet you out there. We're planning on going to Samoa Dragstrip in Eureka in the middle of August. Nothing going on at Infineon and Redding will be too hot. Eureka should be nice and cool. Let's get together for some dragracing, SteveW
