I drove my alot today boy is it HOT here over 100 today.
My car got about 200 in traffic or on the freeway.I guess thats not to bad for how hot is outside.

Anyways one time today I went to restart my car. After parking it for a short time. And nothing no click no NOTHING.I watch the volts gauge as I turned the key it stayed just above 12 volts.
I tried the key about 5 times, and on the 5th time it fired right over??
I went and got a new starter solenoid. And it started fine the rest of the day.
What do you think it was.The natual safty swicth.
The solenoid,the starter???

Thanks

I've had poor battery connections act like that on several occasions. I'd try to start the car it would crank once and then nothing. Not even lights. So I'd go up and wiggle the terminals and I'd have power back. One way to test if you have a poor connection is put a voltmeter directly on the battery terminals while someone's cranking the car. Watch how much the voltage drops. Then retest it on the cable terminals and see how much voltage drop is there when you're cranking. If there's a large difference (2 volts or more) clean or replace your cables/terminals

Ron,

I have never known a Ford solenoid to be intermittent. Not saying they aren't any, but usually they are either good or bad and no inbetween.

I would think maybe the starter neutral switch or ignition switch more so than the solenoid or starter. Or like Rustang said, a bad electrical connection.

The car does turn over slow once in awhile too. It's only started that since I put the long tube headers on.Do you think that it could have been the starter was to HOT?
I was going to get some of that starter heat wrap and see if that helps.

All the cables are new and have good conections. But I'll test it like you said Rustang.

Scoop, if it doesn't make any type of noise, click or anything, chances are it could be the Neutral SS. Move the shifter up and down and back to park or just wiggle it in park. I bet it's that.

Correct it was not making any NOISE at all.No NOTHING The volt gauge was going lower like it was getting current to the starter, but not a sound was heard.
Erik it has only done it once so far.I got it to start just fine after turning the key about 5 times.I tried moving the shifter around at the time it didn't help.I just tried to start one last time, and it fired right. And has started fine since.

If it is the safty swicth how do i change it?

Since the voltage dropped when you turned the key, it was probably a bad battery connection. I'd clean up the terminals at the battery and solenoid.

Ron the same thing happened to my mustang and it turned out to be the cable going from the seleniod to the starter the was grounding out..So check that as well,It took a while to find as it was near the motor mount and on the back side..When it was complety cold in the morning it would spin over and fire up.but when it got hot the load demand was to high for the short and sometimes it would drag (turn slowly ) other times nothing..Good luck! I checked all the conections everything was clean and thight.

I'll check over the starter cable next.I look around where it comes close to the headers down by the motor mount.

When we had this same problem after going to tri-ys, we ended it by going to a gear reduction mini starter. For the added protection we even heat wrapped the mini. We have not experienced one minute of hesitation since. Those headers being very close to the starter and cables will cause problems.
