Can anyone recommend a stall converter for my 69? I'm in the process of upgrading the 302 with Comp Cams 270H, WP Windsor Jr iron heads, performer intake with Holley 600, long headers with 2 1/2 exhaust. Adding a TracLock diff with either 3.50 or 3.80 gears. I'm going to install an AOD in place of the manual 3 spd. Will be used for mostly street with an very limited strip use.Thanks. ------------------ David G. 1969 Mustang Sportsroof 302 with 3 Speed Stick !!!Totally Stock!!! (For Now...;))

For that 270H cam I see alot of guys running in the 2500-3000 stall range. But one thing I would suggest is a Performer RPM instead of the Performer. It will give you a whole lot more top end while giving up not alot of low end to the Performer. Paul ------------------ 1970 Grande H code 351W FMX

as far as the converter listen to alex .But as far as the gears 3.80 if you are going to run an aod also the converter will have a choice of lock up or non lock up this will depend on if you are street and some track or visa virsa . Bruce

It will be street with maybe a trip or three a year to the 1/8 mile strip. I'm assuming that I need a lock-up converter. Thanks.

Unless this is a daily driver I would suggest 4.11 gears with an AOD. I run 4.62 gears in mine with an AOD and it does fine on the street and on the freeway. It is about 2800rpm at 65. As far as stall goes I would call the TQ manufacturer as suggested but I would guess they will recommend in the range of 2700~3000 RPM. HTH, B-loose

If by daily driver you mean as my primary mode of transportation then it wont be. But I do plan to drive it to work as the weather permits and cruise around on the weekend. We have a local Cruise-In the 2nd Saturday of every month that I will be attending as often as possible.

My opinion is 4.11. My belief is the only thing that makes transplanting an AOD into a car is the ability to run an ultra low gear on the street. Like I said I run 4.62 with no regrets. I drive over 30 mile to the race track and about 40 miles to the drive in theater. The freeway to the drive in is 65 MPH and I have no problem doing 65. I cross the line in 3rd with my 225/65-14's at about 6000RPM in the 1/4. Gear low, with an AOD you won't regret it. B-loose

I talked to these two guys a couple of days ago and ALEX is 100% right. Jim knows everyone everywhere that has ever done anything with racing. He's been there done that. He knew half a dozen folks I race with. PLUS he knows what he is doing. I just can't figure out why ALEX has kept them a secret for so long? I also think Kenny Ford at PTC knows a good bit about convertors. he did mine and it seems to work pretty good on my motor. JS
