radiator now installed.Flex fan and shroud removed. High speed connected to thermostat controler now. Will be installing a switch panel to control the low and high settings and also to control the pusher fan. The Fan controller works just fine comes on at 190 (180 thermostat)and turns off at 170. The 428 idled for a hour with only plain water. What coolant should I use to protect the new Aluminum Radiator? I think that I will add some Red Line Water Wetter also just for piece of mind. What about droping to a 160 Deg Thermostat? Will post pictures later.------------------ Glen 67 GT 390 65 Galaxie 500 XL 4 Speed It was not a Red Light they gave me a Slow Tree I WAS NOT LATE the Tree was Fast

I think they recommend the high mileage coolant (the orange color) dexcool stuff for aluminum rads.Did you put on a cap with sacrificial anode? ------------------ '68 coupe 289 C code 66 heads, edel 600cfm carb, performer intake, dual exhaust

Where can you get one of those "sacrificial" radiator caps? Can you get them at a local parts house?

Yes, they're called 'Rad Cap', at least around here that's how they're marketed. Here's a fun experiment! Electrolysis being the root of our cooling system evils, use a multimeter to test your cooling system voltage. Seriously! The static electrical charge generated by the water pump impeller will show up as direct current. Anything in excess of .3v DC can (over time) cause problems, eroding away at the softest metals first (timing cover, freeze plugs, aluminum heads and radiator ). Tony Smith of Smith's Radiator suggested I attach a ground strap from the back of each head to the firewall. I went one better; deionized water. My voltage is .011, which is virtually nothing ------------------ 1965 GT coupe, 333ci aluminum headed/solid cammed stroker, four speed, 3.70:1 9" All Blue Oval, no blue bottle http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/V8Thumper.html

Glen,I have always ran something like Water Wetter, or Purple Ice, and a bottle of water pump lube in my racecar (it has an aluminum rad and aluminum water pump). Granted it doesn't see any street mileage, but the pump is almost 9 years old and still looks like new inside. (By the way, I don't use any anti-freeze in my racecar.)

I use just a 'splash', and I mean about a quart, and a bottle of Watter Wetter (lube/anti-corrosion). Next time I order stuff from Alex, I'm going to try a bottle of Purple Ice

Performance last night. First runs with the Aluminum radiator and electric fan (removed the flex fan and Copper/brass radiator) First time run was a 12.581 @ 109.98 mph 1.92 60' with a .473 light. Second time run was a 12.441 @ 109.98 mph 1.905 60' with a .525 light. Third pass ( first elem round) was a red light .489, rolled in a little too deep, 12.431 on a 12.41 dial @ 110.15 mph 1.933 60'. Looks like a .150 improvement. I need to watch my staging closer. Have a Summit Series Points Race on Saturday at Infineon that will give me a better check on any improvement. Hopefully I can improve my 7th place standing in the Street Class.

Glen,.15 seems like it was worth it. Melissa went out the first round in a double breakout by .0031 mov. Should have dumped him at the stripe. See you Saturday! I think we're bringing the motorhome too. SteveW
