Ok, I will soon have a pair of ET Street tires and I was thinking of mounting them on my existing pair of wheels but I wouldn't be able to drive it too often if they are the only tires i've got mounted.

What can you guys recommend for a 15x7 or 15x8 wheel? I saw some cheap circle track wheels at summit for $40/each but aren't recommended for drag racing. They need to fit '65-'66 mustangs.

Thanks in advance.

Erik

I don`t know what the backspacing needs are for a 65-66 Mustang, but I have my spare pair of slicks mounted on a pair of 15x7" Jeep rims. They have 5 1/2" backspacing, which worked out perfectly for my 85 Mustang`s stock width 8.8 rearend (using 5 lug bolt pattern).

Erik,
Like Rory said, determine what backspacing you need BEFORE you get any rims.

If you are into junkyard diving; with some searchin' you likely could locate some rims off a big Chrysler (same bolt pattern) or a taxi or cop car that likely may have 8" wide rims, for maybe 10$ each. I found the trick on junkyard rims is to find NON-BENT rims...check their bead line good. However, if you can locate a pair, clean them up and give them a quick coat of semi-black paint & you'd be rockin'!

A few years ago I used a pair of dirt-cheap(~30$ ea.), (they came white - but I quickly painted them black), steel-spoked rims from Discount Tire for a while. Yeah, they are heavy, but they worked. I drilled the rim lip without any fear of them "loosing value" since they were only 30$ each.

Just my 2 cents,,,, Good Luck!
Ryan

I have a set of the chrylser 15x7 taxi cab or cop car rims. These fit perfectly on the early mustangs, lots of room on my 68 and they really fill up the 66 wheelwell without sticking out. They are getting harder to find though.

Most tire stores will sell you some steel white spokes in that size for about $25 each.

Thanks for the replies guys.

But the plans have changed!! I picked up a BRAND NEW set of 26x8.5x14 ET DRAGS for DIRRRRRRRRRRT cheap yesterday. They were never mounted and stored in a apartment closet for 3 years!! Even have the warranty stickers on them still. And I happen to have a set of 14x7 magnum 500s!!

Should I apply dishwashing soap to the entire inside of the tire or just the inner sidewalls?
