The car will turn over and act like it's starting but then it just dies right away?

Whats wrong?

I wired just like it said to in the MustangSteves website.

Cut the I wire on the solenoid and put the white wire to it,on the other end of the I wire I put the red wire.

If the I wire is only hot when the key is turned how does the box get power.
I tried a new coil already and pulled the dist twice to make sure it's at number.

Is setting number one on the duraspark different then the reg old dist?

I also got a reman dist too, cleaned all the wires.Besides hooking up the red and white wires everything else is just a plug in.

HELP thanks.

Ron,

Check for spark, then timing, make sure it isn't 180*s out. And get back to us.

Check your red and white wires, the red harness wire goes tothe white box wire and the white harness wire goes to the red box wire.I dont know why the switched the colors in the harness but I wired my first one backwards.

After I wrote for help.I knew what I did wrong.
See you guys helped without even saying anything.
I wires both the red,and white wires to the (I)wire on the solenoid.
It was only getting during cranking.
I wired the red wire to the batt side of the coil which is a full 12 volts, and a keyed switch too.
I hope that spot will work.

It started right up,YES YES.
I had to adjust the timing.I put it at 12 for now.I tried restarting it about 3 more times. My car has never started that easy ever.
It revved good,I did not get a chance to drive it yet.

So for a total of $100 including the credit of $30 refund from summit for the BAD ignitorII coil.

The MSD blaster2 coil said on a Ford it should have a 8omh resistense wire?
Whats that and do I need one?

Thanks for all the help.I'll get the car on the road and see what happens now.

All those new wires look like crud. What did you guys do with your wires?

Also I have had a real pain trying to get the new plug boots on.
My wife to try some KY jelly let me tell all of you.It worked great went right in.Stayed lubed long enough to cut the wire and make the connection.Just thought I'd pass on this tip.

Just get some electrical shrink tubbing and use that to clean it up, many colors to choose from, I used black on mine.

You realize Ron that you have completely set yourself up with this comment, but I will not take advantage of your over-sight this time , well maybe just a little bit. Rump lube on your car

Just a suggestion;

The RED wire should be run off the ignition switch (battery voltage in the run position) and the WHITE (battery voltage in the start position) in the crank only position. The WHITE leads allows the ignition box to retard the timing slightly during cranking.

If you run the box off any other source (say the ignition coil), you may not draw enough volatge to operate it (box) properly or for the coil to draw the necessary volatge/amperage.

Now...here is a way to plumb in a TFI (E-Coil) into the Duraspark system to get an even hotter spark;

John I was laughing so hard when I wrote.
You should have seen me in my room door closed.A bottle of lube and a plug wire and boot.

Thanks for the help ,I run a full 12volt wire NON resistor wire I removed the pink wire some time ago to the coil.Do you still think I use a different wire for the box? Both are getting a full 12volts plus.

If you will notice on the wiring diagram, when you are using a DURASPARK coil (similiar in appearance to the old points style coil, the coil should be run off the resistor wire (except in some CALIF. Emission setups) while the box should receive full voltage.

If you do the TFI upgrade, that coil (E-Coil) is run off full battery volatage.

The people at Summit racing told me it was ok to run the MSD blaster2 coil with a full 12volts.I'm not using the stock duraspark coil.
Is that to many volts for the dist,or the MSD coil?
