I was having some problems with my car stubling at idle and at cruise.
Now I got on it today and at 4800 the car loses some power and then slowly comes back on???
Does this sound like ignition maybe coil to any of you?

I'm going out in the morning and trying to find a duraspark system.

Also since I did the new cam and lifters. My oil pressure is at 70 at start up until the car warms up.Then it goes to 25 at idle and 60 at cruise speed.

The tapped noise was at it's worst tonight too.Do you think that tie's into the car losing some power above 4500rpm?

This car is starting to drive me crazy.

Thanks Bruce,No I have not pulled the cover yet.I had them off last week.Every thing looked good. They have always made alittle noise. But on the way home it was worst then ever.

But I was more worried about the lose of power above 4500rpm and then it comes back on.

Sounds like fuel (pressure/volume~ float levels) to me...

The oil pressure sounds fine. That's pretty close to what mine runs at.

Pull the fuel pump off, check to see if the eccentric is on tight. If you're hearing a 'tapping', it could be there... resulting in low/inadequate fuel delievery

Then again, maybe not. Just an idea

Hey Scoop, sounds like a possible ignition problem. It doesn't misfire does it? Have you checked the wires? Any arcing going on? If you're really going to switch ignition systems, I might have a duraspark distributor for ya if I can dig it up. Last I remember, the distributor shaft was firm and not wobbly, it has a rotor and two caps (blue & grey).

Ok this is what I've done so far.
I checked the plugs they all looked ok,some had white on the tips.I changed the coil it did not help?
I took off all the plug wires checked them and fixed the one that was burnt.
I up the float levels alittle.
The car does not seem to miss,I think that was one plug wire I didn't fix right.Alex helped me out on that one.

The car still loses some power like it's just a rev liminter in it,above 4500.But no were near as bad as it did before.I adjusted the float levels alittle higher.
Right now the fronts are just above the sight plug, and the rears are about in the middle of the sight plug.Does changing the accel, pump rod justment change how much float level the carb needs. The accel rod was way out of ajustment I got it right. And not yesterday was only the 2nd time driving it since I adjusted it.Thats when it started to die above 4500rpm.

Sorry for the long post.

scoop you are useing a coil for electronics and not points right??because that would do it as well..dont ask how i know!!! lol..also a loose wire not making great contact will do that, meaning a coil wire not pushed into the hole tight enough or a spark plug wire not clicked into position on the plug..as rpm goes up so does the load on the spark plug to fire it..make sure everything is tight...Bruce

Hey Scoop, you have a pertronix unit in that thing don't you? Maybe that is the problem if you have one? Just something to check into.

I know if could be the unit. It's only 6mo's old and has only been used for 3mo's.
The six month old pertronixII coil was leaking oil today.I thought it was wet the other day too.
So I put another coil I've had around and will run it tomorrow.

I'm doing the duraspark system right now.
I've only got about $60 into it for now.If all the old parts work.
But that darn pertronix system with coils and rebuilt dist I have about $250 into it.
Any one want to buy the whole package.
