I think there's one in the '66 shop manual. I will check tonight. I assume you're putting one together? They are fun!!

Glen it's a lot more easy just to have SteveW do it for you.
I'll look around and see what I can find.

Yeah, he knows his $hit about 8-9" rearends!! If I launch and floor it right away, i get a 15-25 foot dual snake trail!! I've got to ease into it to get traction.

Thanks guys,

But Glen's built more of them than I have, it's how he earns extra racing cash.

Glen,

I have a manual that I'll leave on the kitchen table if you want. Nancy knows the alarm code. See you Sunday!

I should rebuild the 2.79 rears I have here just for fun to get more experience under my belt. I need the 6" caliper and the dial indicator right Steve?

Thanks Steve I got the diagram from tbolt427 on the FE forum. I had it assembled correctly. just wanted to verify. I have the diagram on the Equa-Lock but not on the Traction-Lok. I loaned my out note book that has all of my 3rd member and Top loader info, now I can't rember who has it. This one is an 8" that I'm installing a 380 gear set in and found that the clutch pack was shot. I had to set the clutch hub up in a lathe and skin the faces. They were scored up. i got lucky and was able to set the depth and a not have to shim the new clutch pack. 175# break 155# as it turns.

Hey guys,
I have several 9 in. trac locs to rebuild. Where would I be able to get the diagrams and the build specs to put these in shape for some more abuse at the strip. They always looked so straightforward that I didn't think I would screw them up, maybe lucky up till now, don't want to push my luck any further.
Any help with where to look for diagrams, specs, or exploded views would be appreciated.

Thanks
Joe

Glen,
Thanks much for the link. What are the other #'s you were talking about? "175# break and 155# as it turns." Is this a bench test? What do I need and how do you perform it? Sorry for all the questions, but I thought I understood these things. What else do I need to know?

Joe

Yes it is a bench test to determin if you have the clutch pack set right. It takes 175 lbs to start the clutch pack turning then as it turns it drops back to 155lbs to continue turning. What I have done is cut a 8" piece off of the axle (spline end) and a 4" piece off of another welded the 8" piece to a large piece of angle iron that I can clamp to my bench or clamp in my vise. the other piece I welded a 1/2" drive socket on. Then I can place the carrier on the long one and then use the short one and a torque wrench to check the preload.
