Finally got the '66 back to the track tonight with the new motor and Flexiform glass springs with CalTrac bars. All we can say is WOW.

The first launch at only 3200rpm off the two step the car pulled the front wheels a couple feet off the ground and held it up while the car turned right! Melissa got it back down and straightened it up. A quick cell phone call to Alex and readjusting the CalTracs and it went straight. The next time it only pulled the front tires about a foot off the ground and went straight! Thanks again Alex.

Its 60' was a 1.462, and then as we were gonna crank things up after a couple passes on the new engine they closed the track for the faster cars. The wind was really blowing the faster cars around especially after the new grandstands. I'm sure we can 60' in the high 1.3s once we get it setup right even with the little 10x26" slicks.

The glass monos and CalTrac combo are awesome. I watched a SS/LA car at Sacramento last Sunday with Steel monos and CalTracs and it didn't pull the front tires off the ground. His main concern was the California Colt. For those that don't know the California Colt uses Flexiform springs and CalTracs.

Sounds like you guys are having fun!

Did you use the CalTracs with a factory style set of springs? Was wondering how the 60' might have improved with the glass monoleaf.

Glen,

That would be great, just post about 5 seconds starting with the launch if you can. It will help with download time.

STEVE & MEL, OBVIOUSLY YOU TWO HAVING TOO MUCH FUN!!

I'll second Fred's question - was the 'glass leaf springs the only change made to get the better bite & resultant 60' improvement?

The rear suspension was clamped 4-leaf springs, slapper bars, and Rancho shocks.

Now fiberglass mono's, CalTrac's and Rancho shocks.

Rob,

Had to loosen the left side bar to take some hit out of the left tire. I need to do some more testing.

Steve, I already have the Flexiform Fiberglass springs and I believe you just persuaded me to spend some more money and get the CalTrac Bars. Congrats on the improvement. Ernie

CalTrac's will need to modify your springs to work with the CalTracs. Ask them about that first, they'll do it for you. John or Travis at CalTrac, or let Alex arrange it for you.

What was the before and after 60 ft times? Good job! I'm thinking of doing this also. If you changed your motor how can you tell how much the new springs and caltrac bars made by themselves? It sounds like you have a lot more bite if your yanking wheels up though! It's always good to have improvements after spending time and money. I have talked to guys that have no improvement or worse, lost some ET after big changes! I'd like to see the video, that's for sure!

XR7,

The mph was down on that run so the new engine wasn't a factor. Gotta get it tuned.

The problem with the 60'ers before was that they weren't consistant. One run might be a good 1.54 then the next would be a 1.76 or worse. The suspension would raise the rear of the car first then roll a couple feet out and if the track had great bite it would pick the front tires off the ground and go. Now it doesn't do any of that crap, it just throws the front tires off the ground right away giving it great weight transfer and traction. Gotta be more consistant than it was before. Only two runs so far, but the difference is very obvious! Lots of people were talking about it in the staging lanes. And asking Melissa if she cleaned up the "mess" in the driver's seat.

When we do get to see the video, remember it is the "tame" launch after I readjusted the CalTracs.

Alex,

It's very Cool now, Thanks!

Don,

She was all smiles! She was a little nervous before the second pass, but with Alex's advice I felt like she'd be safe. The second run was pretty mild, we're goona make a couple more passes tomorrow and see what happens.
