The shop that rebuilt the 428 mistakenly ground too much weld when balancing the crank. It shot out like schrapnel destroying 2 pistons, 2 rods and the block after 14 miles of use. They stepped up and paid for new block (found a standard bore cobrajet block same year as the car). They paid for all new rings, gaskets, bearings etc. I did have to pull and replace the engine but that's the fun part, right? The new dynomax mufflers are quieter than the flowmasters as I was told and they are still suppose to flow almost 3 times more cfm. I'll take to the chassis dyno as soon as I break it in.

Hey ZEATER, Sounds like your machine shop stepped up and did the right thing for ya. I'm glad to hear that there are still folks out there that do that! Do you still have the Flowmasters? If so, it might be interesting to get a dyno run on the Dynomax's then the Flowmasters,,,, real world results & not just magazine hype......... Ryan

That's great news. Wonder where they found a standard bore CJ block. I'll bet you don't wanna know what it cost them. It is super that they admitted they were at fault and fixed things. Maybe we'll see you at Cordova some time this year. I'll be there some probably. Good luck with the new motor. ------------------ 63 Falcon 377 Cleveland stroker Flying Toilet alchohol injection. 6.19 @ 110 MPH 1/8 mile 2002 Ranger FX4 daily driver 2000 F350 PSD Crew cab dually - Like commuting in a B52!! 98 US Cargo Phantom II 28'

I`d like to know more about your mufflers, I have New 3 " pipes with 3 chamber flowmasters and my car is just too loud! If you dont mind cold you tell me exactly which Dynomax mufflers you have ? Like does Dynomax have a specific name or number for the ones you are running ?------------------ http://maverickgrabber.iwarp.com

Congrats on the engine, that?s good news. Regarding the mufflers I run the 3? Dynomax Race Magnums to a 3? exhaust at it isn?t that load at all and I primarily run the car on the street and like the sleeper effect. I read that the Borla X/S series mufflers are the quietest and flow the most, but they are around $159.00 a piece. If I run into some more money (yeah right) I?d like to swap those in.

I used the 3" dynomax ultraflows. They are the straight through design that are suppose to flow almost three times better than flowmaster. You could drop a tennis ball straight therough the muffler. I had the flowmaster 3 chamber mufflers and they were too loud. The sound was great if I wanted a pure race sound but it was too loud for the street and would have given some ticket problems. The dynomax mufflers have a lower sound to them. The actual decibels may be the same but the high treble sound of the flowmasters sound louder. Also the better flow of the dynomax mufflers seems to have moved the sound to the back of the car where it belongs. I'll post chassis dyno numbers after I have some miles on the car. I found the standard bore 428 CJ block only 6 miles from my house. A friend of mine had 4 of them he had been saving. He also had 4 427 side oiler blocks. He sold me the block for 800.00 and the shop reimbursed me.
