Possible, but highly unlikely. The 69 390 would have to have the 4300 Autolite and the FE's don't seem to like those carbs. Other than that, the only 69 CJ Mustang that can fit into D/SA would be a convertible. Maybe Marty has a convert in his stable?

Alex & Mark, Thanks for the words of encouragement. The car is a lot of fun to drive. It is a real bear to stage when you bring up the boost. The starter came loose and tore up the ring gear, so I didn't make first round Sunday. I plan to go to a High Torque starter. Any recomenations on a good brand? Thanks, Marty

Marty, we have the absolute best luck with the FRPP FoMoCo starters.

The mystery is sloved Gerry. He was driving his 69 Torino and NHRA can't get their data right for S/SS (as usual)

Marty,I've used the '93 Mustang/late Ranger high torque starter with good results. I'm not sure about the differences between stick shift and auto with these starters, but the stick shift unit is a bolt-in for a stick application using the cable style bellhousing and Pinto flywheel. I loctite, locknut, or safety wire EVERY fastener. If not, it'll eventually shake loose. Turbo fours are notorious for that. Too bad about missing first round... ------------------ Mark Walton '83 Mustang NHRA Stocker (under construction - track debut 2003) '69 "off brand" NHRA SS/EA
