When I bought my 66 stang recently, it has a nine inch rearend with 4.11 detriot locker in it. I believe that is too much for a street car or so Ive been told. If this is true, I would like too sell these and switch too something else, but I am not sure what I should switch too. Any advice?

It depends on how much highway driving you do.The 4.11s are great around town but get tiresome on the highway really fast.If you use a 5 speed trans with overdrive you can probably live with the gears. If not probably something in the 3.50 range is a good all around gear. Will the car ever see the track and is performance important to you?If its just a daily driver and your looking for mileage something in the 2.75-3.00 range might be better.

It doesnt see much highway use and I dont care about mileage. I am using a c4 as my trannie. Ive thought about the t5 swap, but my wife wants a auto. Yes, my wife will drive the car, rarely, but she helps pay the bills so its hers as much as mine.

Thats about a 27 tall tire. You could keep the 4.11's if you went to a 29-30 tire. And have 3300 rpm at 65mph.You'd still have the leavage of the gears.

Check out this site.

A 3.55 gear would put you at about 3150rpm @ 65mph.
I was just trying to keep you from having the expensive of changing gears.

Save the money for the gear change and spend it on gas. You'll have more fun.
