I saw the video clips of his car and Steve66's daughter's car. The 66 Mustang must surprise a lot of people and the 67 is a quick street car. Wondering how the engines are set up in these cars.

I'll let Glen answer about his engine. Here's a link to Melissa's photo page and the spec's are at the bottom under the pics.It is a street legal car and gets driven ocassionaly on the street. SteveW

Thanks to both Steves. That's a really nice car. How long have you been working on it. Seems like you have put a lot of time/work on the car. Your neighborhood looks nice too. Everything is green unlike the desert down here. The one good thing about here is that LACR is only about 15 miles away.Do you usually go to Sacramento to race or can you race at Sears Point. When I was going to school in Bay area a long time ago, I went to Fremont Raceway a few times. Is that still open?

afret,I've heard of a few history stories of the old fremont raceway. It's long gone now and is now a landfill. I wish they would re-open it, but it's so close to everything now including homes. My local machine shop guy said he used to race his cougar there years ago and they used to change the oil at the track and drain it right there in the pits. ....I think I'd rather have a straight track near my house than a landfill! But I'd expect the oil dumping didn't help win any points to keep the track there.... Nowadays, if you willfully dump oil/ATF/fuel at motorsport tracks in Michigan, you'll be banned. Ryan

afret,We've been working on the car since she got it 5 years ago. It was passed down through the family and was pretty sad. Got it roadworthy when she got her license, then a year or so later she tried drag racing at Sears Point. It ran 17/18s with the 289 3speed two barrel. When she graduated from the H.S. class we had it down to 12.0s with a 351w and the c-4. The car has had a 3sp, 4sp T/L'r, T-5, and finally the c-4 in it. Then along came a good sponsor with an offer to build her a "BadAssed" engine, and here we are now. The 408 is from www.badasscars.com thanks Arron. We mostly race at SearsPoint (now named Infineon), and occasionally at Sacramento Raceway. Dennis,
Thanks, I think that's the name of the color. It's the same as my 2002 F250 truck that tows it to the track too. SteveW

History stories???? Boy you sure know how to make someone feel old. LOL. Hey Steve, nice to hear about the colorful history of Melissa's car. It sure is one incredible car. It must be one heck of a thrill ride to go so quick. She is fortunate to have such a helpful parent. I sure don't remember seeing too many father/daughter teams at the stip back when I used to go a lot. In fact, I don't remember seeing any. Hope it keeps going quicker and quicker.

We're gonna stop at 10.00s! Honest,We used to say we were gonna stop at 12.00s cause we weren't gonna put a roll bar in the car. SteveW I see several father/daughter teams nowadays. One is a retired S/C dragster Dad with his 17 year old now in the dragster. We'll probably see more of it with graduating Jr. Dragster kids.

Haven't weighed it since the rollbar and the ballast was added. It was 3060 w/driver a couple years ago w/351 and toploader. I'd guess 3100 or so now. What the fairlane weigh? SteveW

That's a nice running car. What headers and mufflers are you running? Were you using a slightly milder cam earlier? Have you ever run this combo with stock CJ heads and if so how much did the Ebok heads help? Do the Caltracs make a significant difference?

#1 Hooker Super comps with 2 1/2" 2 chamber Flows turn downs just in front of the axle. #2 yes ran a Crane 344341 537 lift 288 duration 390 GT heads car ran 12.60 to 70s put the CJ iron heads and slowed down .( carb only opened 3/4 for over a year and a half) It did make a 12.40 with open headers and slicks at a nostaliga event. #3... can't judge the change on the heads (long story) Caltracks GOOD Old 60s were 2.0s to 1.95s with CTs 1.80 to 1.9 They changed the way the car leaves. With slapper bars the rear used to squat and go. With Caltracks the Stang leaps up and goesssss

Your car was that quick with the GT heads? That was with a throttle limiter? Did you port them? That's amazing! Did you ever run full throttle? How much difference did the new Crane cam make? My 69 Mach really used to squat with slapper bars. I'll get my Caltracs on next week. When/if I ever get my car back to the strip again, it would be interesting to see if I get the same result. Thanks for posting the video clip. It was great.

Glen was interviewed by our local paper. Here's the print, ******************************************** The bracket system may even the pavement but it also rewards the driver who best knows his vehicle. Like 10 year regular Glen Phillips. "When you run as much as we do, you know what's going on with your car", said Glen. "Even then, you still screw up." Phillips who is a bit of a sage in the staging lanes, offering advice and jokes to his fellow drivers, commands a BULLY of an old Mustang. He just installed the new motor but is still running manual shift. "I am," he smiled, "a dinosaur." ******************************************** So now know my freind is a dinosaur and his Mustang is a BULLY!! Here's to bullies and dinosaurs. SteveW

Glen, If you get the chance, would you take a look at the new topic I just posted titled "1956 F100 Project (428SCJ and AOD-E)"? I ask a few questons about your engine combo. Thanks, Dan Jones
