Ok...ok...I'm missing out on a lot of action and fun with this hotrod thing... I've never been to the drags...ever...period. But I've been to circle track type races before... The only satisfaction of speed I ever get is a blessed event... finding a deserted road where I can pop the clutch and get sideways taking off, but I've never maintained a high speed for very long... I bet I would on the track...with a rollcage... So how do I go about this wanting to go to the track? Call my local track (IRP), and get the facts, the rules, the cost? I hear about street cars running on weekends for a fee... Is this expensive? I really want to see how fast my car goes, short of finding an abandoned air strip using a G-tech meter... ------------------

Call IRP back and find out if they have a Test and Tune night. Usually on T&T nights they might have a bracket program, but most often you can get in a few runs. Since there are no eliminations, you keep on running and practicing. Beech Bend here in Bowling Green only charges $10 for T&T, cheap fun. Fond memories of IRP, got busted in 1971 at the Nationals, violation of the 1935 Liquor Law, contributing to the delinquecy of a 20 year old minor. Mike

For sure go it's a lot of fun.Do you know any other local guys that would go with you.Maybe they can help you alittle.Give your car a good tune and safty check 1st.Then find out when and where and how much.Around here it's about $25.Them when you get there take your time watch a few cars go.Line up and your off, after a few runs you'll have the hang of it. ------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8"3.40 TracLoc,Cragar SS,Black Suede. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html

IRP has test n tune every Tuesday night during the summer and often on friday nights. It's all street cars and don't worry, if you're a novice you'll fit in just fine. There aren't alot of really radical cars there, it's mostly daily street drivers.I think it costs about $10 to $15. You could go the first time as a spectator and get some information if you want. Then the next time you can try it yourself. It's alot of fun. [This message has been edited by Mike_R (edited 02-19-2003).]

Yeah, I need to get a little more creative with my username, huh (LOL). There are about four Mikes in the area where I work. When somebody yells "hey Mike" mass confusion occurs.

Sounds to me... That was alot of good info guys... I don't know why I haven't done this before? I really haven't been trying to risk my life much in the past...but now, h&ll with it, I'm almost 40...did I live so far? Barely!! My car needs new front struts, brake work, some new tires (and rims)... I should've kept the factory 10 hole rims instead of tradin' em to a kid for some less than perfect aluminum rims... But really, my car is driveable now... I shouldn't have a problem being ready by the time warm weather creeps in... Ahhhh....Mashin' the go pedal and not lettin' up.... Powershifting the 5 speed like an amature... Listening for those strange sounds to erupt when something is about to break... Something breaks...then stand around like a nimrod wondering why I never bought a car tow dolly... But really, thanks alot guys... I'm goin' racin'... ------------------ Low Dollar 1983 Mustang GT W/T-tops... 306 4bbl.
