On my 1969 351w does it matter what year the new timing chain and gears are for?
And are there any items I should messure or look for to make the new one will work?

No and no, as long as they're for a '62-'84 sbf or Windsor. Cleveland's won't work.

I'm not sure but Cloyes and CompCam's list their timing chains for 1962-1984, and even other brands say "not for roller cams". Maybe Alex can clear this up.

i bet that is why my eccentric rubs on the inside of the timing cover a little!!!
i got a roller cam engine with a old type cover with a manual fuel pump and probably the new type gears. oh well it has made its self a little groove to run in now!!

It's soft metal anyway Mike. All engines have some metal in the oil from wear. That's why we have filters.
