Your consistency with the 4 speed is the reason you have those 4 track champion jackets. Not to mention the lights you can cut. Good job, and I think the weather will cooperate for us on SuperBowl Sunday. Are you bringing the big screen tv on the front of your trailer? SteveW

Glen just curious what happens if you come out higher than 3100rpm.?Your car really seems to pick up with the higher launch.

Low end torque blows the tires unpredictable tire spin. I'm still learning the torque curve to optmize the launch and dial in the CalTracs. I strive for repeatability not top speed. but SPEED IS GOOD. or SPEED IS GOD one day I will figure it out. Then one day I can sit on a tall mountain and lecture the pilgrims or something, go figure ------------------ Glen 67 GT 390 65 Galaxie 500 XL 4 Speed It was not a Red Light they gave me a Slow Tree I WAS NOT LATE the Tree was Fast [This message has been edited by Glens67 (edited 01-24-2003).]

Yeah I figured it must be a traction issue or a weak link somewhere If you can keep that 428 together for a while you can sit on a mountain and lecture me how you did it.I have enough parts to build a 428 for my 68 stang but I've heard so many horror stories and had enough bad FE experiences myself that I'm afraid to build it

Glen great runs, but you already knew that. That .770 light seemd ok to me,I'm still in the land of .700-.600 R/T. Maybe this spring I will be able to work on the lights more.------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8"3.40 TracLoc,Cragar SS,Black Suede. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html

As long as you don`t try to rev a 428 too high, they hold together just fine, if built properly. The 428 in my Fairmont has been running mid-low 10`s at over 125 mph for almost 10 years now, with virtually a stock bottom end. It still runs the same cast crank, 3/8" rods with forged Speed Pro pistons, virtually stock CJ iron heads, with a Ford Sidewinder & Holley 780 vacumn carb, & a solid lifter cam. I normally only shift it around 6000-6200 rpm, although it does nudge 6700 going thru the traps on a 130+ mph pass.Other than 2 "freshen up" ring jobs, and new valve springs every 4 years or so, it`s almost exactly the same as when I built it in 1994. It`s never blown a head gasket, spun a bearing... He!!, it`s never even fouled a spark plug!! Granted, I may be near the threshold on what a basically stock FE long block will substain for longevity, but it sure serves my purposes well.------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA Stocker under construction, 302 5 speed 59 Meteor (Canadian Ford) 2 dr sedan 332, auto 74 F350 ramp truck 390 4spd
