I'm wanting to start reading/learning about automatic transmissions, C4's to be exact! Does anyone know of a good book that talks about Ford automatics that would be a good starting point. I just want to learn about basic function and rebuilding procedures....any suggestions appreciated!!

Go to http://www.bulkpart.com and order the ATSG service manual for the C4/C5 for about 15.00. Has lots of pictures on how to take the transmission apart and put it back together along with clearances. It is written more towards the later C5's with lock up converters but most all the info applies to the C4 also.------------------ Larry No fast Fords at this time but one fine cruising 96 F350 CC DRW Power Strokin diesel. Hey Guys, Haynes has a manual that covers all main Ford automatics. It covers basic operation, disassembly, rebuild and assembly. We picked one up when we got tired of the so called experts screwing ours up and charging to fix their mistakes. Once you get inside them, they're not as mystical as the experts lead you to believe.------------------ Paul Garant "No replacement for displacement."

I agree. They aren't as bad as I thought. Just pay close attention to clearances and end play. I'll never hire another rebuild. I also looked around for a performance manual. I just couldn't find more than a stock overhaul manual. I got the Haynes manual and also got a lot of performance tricks from the Fordmuscle archives.
