So I'm ready to tear my car apart to get ready for the engine mods and other things. I've decided on keeping my 289 with performer intake and 600 holley carb. I will add 351W heads (mabye minor poring job) and a comp 270h or 270s cam. I also have long tube headers and exhuast cutouts. The car is a '67 coupe. I plan on adding a shift kit to the c-4 tranny and putting either 3.80 or 3.55 gears in the rear. I just want overall advice on any of these things I mentioned that I will be doing. I also want to know how much hp I will be making at the rear wheels and around what my quarter mile time should be. I know thats a lot of questions but I just want an idea of what this car will do when all this is done. Thanks in advance!

It should run low 15s when you're done. You need a higher stall converter too. SteveW

I would change the intake to a rpm. I think it would work better with the cam.A 2500 rpm stall would do you. And then theres traction more power= less traction. I'd say with a few more mods and lots of traction you'll hit the low 14's.------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8"3.40 TracLoc,Cragar SS,Black Suede. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html

Our 65 coupe was dynoed at 205 rear wheel horsepower and it ran 14.30s on street tires and a 4.11 gear.

What kind of engine and transmission does your coupe have? Any modifications?

One more think: what does it mean if 351W heads are "D0OE"? Will 351 heads just bolt up without modifications to my 289? Thanks again

With the right gaskets and reducer/washers on the head bolts they will. You may have to drill small water/steam holes in the heads like I did, just see if your gaskets uncover the top water jackets in the block and head. SteveW

I would think you could run closer to low 14 and maybe 13.99. How much does your car weigh? I was able to run a 14.02 with a little bit of work to the top end and 3.8 gears with posi and my original 3 speed and 96000miles on the bottom end of my 289 with full dual exhaust and factory exhaust manifolds and street tires.I just don't know how much difference the C4 will make compared to a standard.

How would I know if I had to "drill small water/steam holes in the heads"? And where?

It has a 65 289 stock replacement pistons 30 over, a pretty big cam (dont have a clue what kind because it was in it when we bought the motor) an edelbrock performer intake, and a holley 600 dp with cheap heddman headers. the trans is a 68 mustang toploader with a ram clutch. the tires are bf goodrich t/a radials
