My 65 fastback has a 289 with about 2000 miles on the total rebuild. When the car had 900 miles on it, I had it on the dyno and the operator told me that at 110 MPH on a full load the car was putting out 232HP to the rear wheels. What would this give me at the front end/flywheel ? What do you think my 1/4 time would be, with this motor, C4-greendot tranny no shift kit, 3.25:1 posi rear end, stock tires 205/75R/14`s ? Thanks in advance for your opinions. JOHN

Not my 1/8 times, my 1/4 times. I am sure you just read it wrong. If I could pull 9.9`s with this set up, I would also be able to grow back all the hair that I have lost JOHN

John I'd say high 15's at best.Because you wont have any traction with those tires. Now get some sticky tires then maybe you'll see those 9.90.------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8"3.40 TracLoc,Cragar SS,Black Suede. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html

O.K. with a good set of tires on the rear, what could I realistically expect to see at the track in the 1/4, and , what kind of tires should I get for this car, that are not going to cost me a bunch, and, that will just mount up with out having to do anything to the wheel wells. I do not want to roll, cut or bend anything, do I need different rims or can I mount them on my stock rims ? John with good tires,I'd say you'd be in the low 14's .But I could be way wrong,I've been wrong before. As for the tires any will go right on your rims. But most real sticky tires will not be good for the highway.Maybe a BFG drag radial might be the best for all around. I think you can go to a 235-60-14 tire it should fit ok. ------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8"3.40 TracLoc,Cragar SS,Black Suede. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html

I would guess 15s with half decent traction.Get some lower gears, a 3000 convertor and a shift kit with some slicks and you'll be in the 13s------------------ 1968 mustang j-code sprint.13.69@101 306cu.in, stock ported heads,weiand exellerator,650 holley DP,hedman hedders,comp 292 Magnum cam,4-speed,8 inch 4.11 detroit locker

Hi John I Have the same car except a 66 I used to just take it to car shows but quickly I got bored of this and thought I would try it on the track. My first run out I ran about 17 seconds with lots of tire spin and the first time racer jitters but what a rush. I was able to bring that number down to a 14.97 with my all orignial 289 with 3.0 rear end and oringinal 4 barrel and a standard 3 speed car and the same size tires that you have. I have spent a little money on the car and ran a best time of 14.02 @97mph but still have the 14" radial tires. Good luck and have fun but watch out when you get bit from the drag racing bug there is nothing that cures this except to hit hte track every chance you get!
