Just a thought. My 13" air cleaner just clears the hood; Holley 3310 on top of an RPM airgap. What would be the trade off, putting a spacer under the carb and going to a 1.750" (one inch shorter than it is now) element? That's starting to run out of surface area on the element ...

Do you need a spacer? An open hole spacer will give you more top end while the four hole would help your bottom end. How much I guess depends on your motor, which looks great BTW. I guess if you want to race and need the spacer you could always pull the breather off just for the one race, if you thought the breather was getting to small. I small breather probably won't hurt you any for everyday driving. It would probably show up more at the track. This is a tough question to answer, you may have to just try it. have you got all the pieces already? So you wouldn't be out any $$$ to give it a try. Sorry I didn't help much.

Todd from what I've read you shoul have at least 1" from the top of the carb to the bottom of the air cleaner lid.
Do you really need MORE power already.

THAT'S THE TICKET!

Great points guys, thanks Jerry, I've got a few spacers... an air filter element would be <$10, so I may give a shot
