Hey Guys,

My Dad and I installed the torque strap last night. Need your final thoughts of the materials we used.

We used a turnbuckle and all grade 8 bolts and locking nuts. The bolt connected to the head is spaced with an alternator spacer (used to clear the oil pressure sender). I have about 7/8"-1" of thread screwed into the head, about 1" of spacer, 2 washers and a turnbuckle between the head of the bolt and the head. The bottom half is bolted to the sway bar mount.

Is the Gr.8 bolt in the cylinder head sufficient enough to hold the turnbuckle under load? Even though majority of the bolt isn't screwed into the head?

I'll take pics tonight if anyone isn't clear.

Thanks in advance.

Erik

p.s. We revved it a few times last night and there is very minimal movement now. I'm just worried about if it will hold up at 6000rpm

Mine is only into the head about 1 1/4" with a grade8 bolt. It's held up well so far,I've tested it a few times.

Erik,

I'd get rid of the spacer and keep it close to the head. That spacer adds extra leverage to the bolt which could open up the hole in aluminum heads. Just turn your oil pressure sender out of the way.

Other than that, sounds good.

I have ported cast iron Windsor JRs on my 302. Should I be cautious with cast irons? I could turn the sender out of the way though i'd have to build a new L bracket.

Thanks in advance.

Erik,

You're ok with the cast heads, I thought yours were aluminum.
